Last year a committee I was on was tasked with drafting a financial exigency policy so we read a bunch of policies from peer institutions and they were all basically the same except one that actually afforded faculty power and it turned out that was because no one had updated it since the 1980s
I know it's complicated but part of me will never forgive the generations of academics above me who chose personal gain over shared governance
