#Trieste was intense but amazing. While not the type of book that I craved, each time I picked it up, I couldn't stop. After that and #TrainDreams, I'm hoping #Vineland will deliver some of the fun I'm looking for. I really liked #OneBattleAfterAnother, so I have high hopes!

Picked up #TrainDreams thinking this would be a nice break from the heaviness of #Trieste... That was dumb. Devastating at times but I loved it SO much. The writing is beautiful, re-read many parts multiple times to soak it all in and I still want more! #DenisJohnson #novella #booksky #litfic

#Trieste is not an easy read to pick up for a bit during work breaks but still, I'm finding the whole experience enjoyable. Considering the subject matter (Italy, #WW2), it doesn't make me want to curl up and cry, quite the opposite - it's unique and oddly, "light". #booksky #litfic #booksandcoffee

Dropped in at the local shop, couldn't resist these #bargains, all big bois and great prices. This was a no brainer until I realized I'd have to carry these on my long walk home 🫀. Oh well, got a weighted stroll in, arms ache a bit - I'm a weakling.

Late night coffee to start #Utopia, morning coffee to finish it. Is this supposed to be #satire? It feels more preachy than clever. Lots of timeless ideas about meaningful contribution to society, functional social systems - but I was hoping for something more πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I finished #TheInventionOfMorel, a couple times, and can't figure out what exactly I read 🀣. Maybe it's the beer talking but I spent most of the book wondering what was going on, and yet, as a whole, still liked it. Left me filled with hope. #novella #booksky #AdolfoBioyCasares #booksandbeer

Flight rebooked "due to weather", weather is clear and perfectly fine πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. I brought #Casares to keep me entertained...& also very puzzled - not your average airport book. So far, I'm loving the #Lost -like setup. Bookseller told me this was actually in an episode of Lost.

On the home stretch of #Bomarzo. The main character is a whiny, narcissistic POS, but there's something so compelling about his whining that I genuinely like it. As much as I'm enjoying this 600pp bitch fest, I'm very much looking forward to something new. #booksky #teatime #modernlit #nyrb

I'm so hooked. Why am I so hooked? Why do I love #RussianLit so much? Halfway through & things are getting messyπŸ‘ can't tell if it's getting more melodramatic or less. I flip-flopped so much thru the 1st half between loving & hating Andrey, I wonder where I'll land by the end. #Tolstoy #FridayFunday

Loving the hilariously bitchy narration in #Bomarzo, really unexpected against the renaissance-y setting. Didn't know what to expect, but apparently it's a lot of laughs. I need to get a handle on my excessive annotation though, it's really slowing me down. #booksky #nyrb #historicalfiction

I always gravitate towards these busted and abused mass market #paperbacks - I feel less guilty about loading up and adding to the #backlog when they're only $5. Haven't finished War and Peace yet, but can't hold myself back from my next Russian read.

Diving into the delivery service industry in Beijing. This isn't light hearted but also not heavy, just very matter of fact, like a diary. Interesting that their service model is very 1 courier to 1 set of clients every day vs different courier every day service I'm used to #booksky #nonfiction

Breezing through #WarAndPeace. This is a very readable translation - modern but doesn't feel out of place. Wrapped Vol 1 with #SaintSaen Le rouet d'Omphale in the background, which made the whole battle scene play out quirkier than it's prob meant to be. #booksky #ClassicLit #Tolstoy #FridayFunday

Thanks, I appreciate the encouragement/validation. I don't recall ever feeling as low as this after finishing a read 😒

The fallout from the numb-sadness I felt after finishing The Dark Tower series is self-soothing by hitting the stacks of my fave local #bookstores and spending $$ on more books that I will probably not get to for months or years. Oh how the #backlog grows. #booksky #usedbooks #readinglife

It's the weekend so it's time for some light fun. Started Slayers & Vampires, & decided in order to really get into this oral history, I should rewatch #Buffy, so I restarted it. Wow, it takes me back, & it's still good! Need to find time to sneak in some #Persona too.

Well, my #DarkTower journey is done. I know the ending is contentious but I loved it. Knowing what I know now, I'll want to re-read this all at some point. I feel a bit empty and lost now that it's over. Need to dive into another one with a toasty bevvy to numb the numbness. #booksky #oy #KingisKing

On the flip side of scary, I'm eating up any scene with Jake and Oy, I love them - they're written so sweetly. I need a billybumbler in my life.

The lengthy descriptions (though sometimes painful) definitely paint some very vivid images! Was it earlier in the book or later? I'm trying to stay neutral and calm to get through this emotional rollercoaster.

Despite the size of this I am breezing through #TheDarkTower - with only tears in my eyes to slow me down. I'm about halfway and did not expect this kind of gut punch. This is a lot to take in...

I hope the weird hot choco helps me through this.

#FakeWork as my morning read was a bad idea. It's quite funny but gives me a huge boost of existential dread before I trudge off to work.

Balboa Park from #SureFireSoulEnsemble also adds "fruit party" vibes from #Severance to my experience.

It feels like the end of the world when it's cold out & hot spots are void of people - matches the mood of the book. Also, thought it would be fitting to lunch at a spot with automated food service while I start the chapter on robopocalypse. #EverythingMustGo #mondaymood #booksky #nonfiction

#JRPG s have so much text, thought trying #Persona3 would count as AM reading time. Jury is out on whether I like this genre, I prefer more action with my games. I can say that #Retroid devices are pretty cool though. This is an oldie but goodie. #RP4Pro #gaming #emulation #videogames #Fes

#MaryRoach makes me crave a drink, her books feel like settling in for a cozy chat with a friend who has great stories to tell. As usual, learned a lot while giggling through #ReplaceableYou, though I regret eating while reading certain parts of this. #booksky #booksandbeer #nonfiction #FridayFunDay

Ha thanks, I overdid the foam - loaded up on it the way Palahniuk loads up on cultural references.

Oh boy. #AdjustmentDay - a disorienting, disturbing & funny read. Lots of flip flopping b/w storylines & easter egg/references to dig out & I loved every bit of it. The #satire is strong, but hits uncomfortably close to home in the crazy ass timeline we're living in. #booksky #underrated #palahniuk

Well this got weird. I like the meta direction this went, and the "the character" #StephenKing was fun and funny - the journal entries were a nice break from the central story too. #SureFireSoulEnsemble delivers the sounds to match the pre-00s world. #booksky #bookseries #fictionfriday #darktower

This was so fun! Reading about the background of the #Scream franchise, it all makes sense why the series never quite felt like your average #horror, and why it still feels relevant today. Big respect to #WesCraven too, he sounds like an awesome boss.

Anyone play #StrangeHorticulture before? Made the mistake of trying it out over a quick break instead of reading, and now I can't stop playing. Quick break has now gone on for more than an hour. Not what I expected - sounded boring, and now I'm addicted. #videogame #cozygame #gamerlife #Steam
