Miliband doubles down on net zero - Energy Live News Labour to announce breaking the link between gas and electricity prices and more renewables push

Ed Miliband today: "The era of fossil fuel security is over and the era of clean energy security must come of age....To ignore two crises in less than five years would be completely irresponsible… our action must now be faster deeper and more wide ranging.”

UK government to increase heat pump grants to £9000 for those with oil and LPG heating. Generous for sure but fully closes the risk of a cost gap and may even provide a small excess for those with small homes (typically the least well off). (1/2)

Sitka Spruce the Amazing Timber Tree This is "Sitka Spruce the Amazing Timber Tree" by iPLANiT Productions on Vimeo, the home for high quality videos and the people who love them.

This video, and 2 copies of the matching book, have been sent to **every primary school in Ireland**.

It's possibly THE most outrageous industry propaganda I've ever seen. The descriptions of Sitka deadzones are so totally false, it's hard to know where to even start.

The insider trading suspicions looming over Trump's presidency The BBC has found a pattern of spikes in trades ahead of public announcements by the US president.

“The BBC… found a consistent pattern of spikes just hours, or sometimes minutes, before a [market-moving Trump] social media post or media interview was made public.

Took some finding but I eventually came across the right one. You'd think it wasn't beyond the wit of man to default your preferred spelling to the the country the operating system knows you've entered—rather than having to dig around and change the language in half a dozen different settings :-)

Experts call for restrictions on pet flea treatments that harm UK songbirds Chemicals known to affect brains of common garden birds, and to kill unborn chicks, found in most feather samples Conservationists have called for restrictions on pet flea treatments after research found songbird feathers widely contaminated with substances that can damage the birds’ brains and kill unborn chicks. Almost every feather sample tested from five common species of UK garden birds contained either permethrin, imidacloprid or fipronil – all insecticides that are banned for agricultural use but still common in pet tick and flea treatments. Why Electrification Could Cut Global Energy Use in Half!
Why Electrification Could Cut Global Energy Use in Half! YouTube video by Everything Electric TECH

NEW PODCAST: Electricity is just 20% of global energy. The other 80% (heating, transport, industry) still runs on fossil fuels. Full electrification could cut total energy demand in half. More in my conversation with @bobbyllew.bsky.social of Everything Electric Show

Nick Robinson on the Today programme this morning was quick to repeat a misleading line about why we should support new North Sea oil & gas extraction in the UK on the grounds that it's MUCH (4x) cleaner than importing LNG. It's incorrect on several grounds: 🧵

The BBC, like most broadcasters, does not have a dedicated energy editor, which is a glaring omission given that almost everything revolves around energy

Meta just paid the lowest effective federal tax rate in its history.

Thanks to tax breaks and loopholes, it avoided $13.7B in 2025 federal income taxes.

But now it's planning to lay off 10% of its global workforce (8,000 people) by May 20 — with more job cuts later this year.

Trickle down hoax.

Average new UK electric car price is now lower than petrol vehicles Autotrader says average EV cost is £785 cheaper, in an important milestone in the move away from fossil fuels

Forget "total cost of ownership." In the UK, the average EV is now cheaper than the average ICE vehicle, up front. Sticker cost.

And of course the savings just keep accumulating after that.

Reform are going to tank the UK economy if they win the next election. Just their pledge on migration - to deport "at least 200,000 refugees" will massively reduce economic growth.

We don't have to guess to know this - Trump's giving us real-time proof

Ed Miliband to double down on net zero with measures to combat Iran energy shock As fossil fuel prices soar ‘the era of clean energy security must come of age’, energy secretary will say

There is no politician - and I mean none - who is better-placed than Ed Miliband to get us through this fossil fuel-driven energy crisis.

No-one in politics understands the energy system better. That’s why the billionaire fossil press hate him

🚨🚨Fascinating @politico.eu report on how Donald #Trump has become so politically toxic in Europe that even his closest ideological #far-right allies increasingly view him as a liability. 🧵

A stupid point from Reid. By definition those accused of serious crimes are treated with suspicion. And, also by definition, senior civil servants are screened and vetted by strict systems and need to be trusted by politicians to be straight and honest. Otherwise what's the point of anything?

"When I started writing about the climate crisis in the 1980s I was in my twenties, and I didn’t fully comprehend that there could be a force on this planet so steeped in greed & power that it would sacrifice the earth & its inhabitants for its own narrow interests. But there is, and it’s Big Oil."

Most people have heard of the 'Gulf Stream', and the warm sea water and resultant air it brings us from the SW, which is a small element of the AMOC.

1/ There's a system of ocean currents in the Atlantic that shapes Europe's #climate, drives monsoons, and keeps sea levels stable along the US coast.

In the last 5 years, the scientific evidence that it could collapse has shifted dramatically.

Most people have no idea. 🧵
