Excellent, thanks! Have now reported my great-aunt and great-uncle, who ended up as ‘London’ instead of Condon, despite their brother and parents on the same record being correctly transcribed. Looks like a machine reading type error, so it would be good to have a human check it!

Apparently we can report errors through the main NAI query email. #1926census

450 redundancies announced at the Ulster University. The impact of this will be devastating to staff, students & the functioning of the North as a whole. From social sciences speaking truth to power, to art giving this place joy - the decision must be reversed.

The cyberattack on The British Library in October 2023 knocked out ebooks and almost ever other computer thing there for years.
Ebooks just came back. They were knocked out everywhere using the BL’s license (legal deposit libraries I think? More libraries?)
Distributed physical copies matter.
Your regular reminder that you DO NOT have to help fund literal Nazis with your Subst*ck: other easy-to-use and powerful newsletter/CMS backend options like Ghost are not just out there but waiting for you to put your money where your principles are.
I’m totally neurotic about missing flights BECAUSE I missed one and got stuck in Munich overnight during Oktoberfest with no accommodation (badly timed research trip). Thankfully the airline took pity on me and found me a hotel near the airport that actually had a free room.
The records of the #1926Census were released on 18 April '26, exactly 100 years after the first census of the #IrishFreeState was conducted. This landmark collection is now freely searchable on the National Archives of Ireland: nationalarchives.ie/collections/...

One for all of our blockaders to have a think about
We will continue to make two-dimensional maps. Because your mind can't handle the truth.
I saw that - there used to be a form where you could submit corrections like this one. I hope they start that ip again, because something like this is much more likely to be spotted by a person.
A list of names from a 1926 Census entry, all written in the same handwriting: David Condon, Elizabeth Condon, Patrick Condon, Thomas Condon, Ada Condon
There doesn’t seem to be anywhere to report mistakes, either - three of my relatives here were transcribed (correctly) as Condons, while two of them were transcribed as Londons 🤷🏻♀️
_"The Government’s consistent cheerleading for data centre expansion has reached a point of reckless disconnect from the economic reality of Irish citizens... Irish families are paying nearly double the electricity rates of these industrial facilities, effectively subsidizing the massive energy consumption of global tech giants while struggling with a punishing cost-of-living crisis." https://greenparty.ie/news/uncritical-expansion-data-centres-will-fuel-social-inequality-and-energy-crisis-cllr-hazel-chu
Data centres uses 32% of Ireland's total electricity supply but pay almost less than half of the residential rate. So we're effectively subsidizing tech giants during a cost of living & energy crisis. Meanwhile this Govt continues to cheerlead their expansion & continue to fail in their obligations.
We have Mary Ann/Maureen, lots if Ellen/Nells, and of course, the venerable Hanora/Nora/Noreen going on. Plus an awful lot of men called John.
I finally got Manannán transcribed. It is the 1939 Irish language sci-fi book with the first Spaceship using a gravity assist in literature.
Next up is conversion to modern spelling. If you know a list of known changes (annso->anseo) or can even just help by reading please let me know.
New on the Anthropic settlement from the @authorsguild.org : over 91% (!!) of eligible books were claimed as of the claims deadline (I would not have predicted such a high number!)
Looks like the payout will be close to the $3000 originally estimated authorsguild.org/news/anthrop...
A screen showing Marvel’s achievements: 17 years, 37 films, $34 billion dollars.
Marvel just fired their entire visual development team. All the artists who made this possible.

Another artist Marvel let go today was Visual Development Director @andyparkart.bsky.social !
Which is wild as Andy is a staple!
Andy was responsible for the visual direction of the Guardian of the Galaxy movies, the designs of Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Shang-Chi, latest Thor, and so much more!
Another poster to make the typographers cry @maryannbolger.bsky.social
There's nothing an archivist likes more than getting to help with the weirdest, most specific questions. We had someone email about the height of kerbs in Milton Keynes and guess what?? We've got documents about that!!
Yes, and it unfortunately does that to the blood sugar, ask me how I know 😬 Glad it’s back down again now, at least.
Bloody hell, that sounds like A Day all round. The sort of rollercoaster nobody needs.
Let's see why clean energy technologies are so much more energy secure than oil.
A single solar panel (450W) costs about €100, same as a tank of petrol.
How many EV kilometres can the solar panel power compared to the tank of diesel?
Take a guess while I work it out on the back of an envelope.
Seven countries now generate 100% of their electricity from renewable sources, proving the transition is not theoretical but already operational. The barrier is no longer technology, but political will, investment priorities, and the courage to move faster.
Half a billion euro for 10c off each litre of petrol and diesel for drivers and all the rest on private business. No grants to make evs or hybrid cars affordable for people, no increase in grants for home insulation to save on heating oil, no reduction in the price of home heating oil.
Half a billion of god's euros could have been used to improve EV charging infrastructure across the country to make it viable for more hauliers to switch to electric trucks and never worry about fuel again
This is how you are supposed to react to high oil prices. We have just been bounced into do itn the opposite. Delaying carbon tax under pressure from the protestors will slow our move away from fossil fuel. In the long run we all lose.
this is totally bang on, and touches on something that hasn't received a lot of attention in the last week: our Climate Action measures have yet to impact on agri or haulage in any significant way, and in its inaction the govt is leaving both sectors exposed to fuel and other shocks
i don’t want my appliances to be smart or connect to the internet. i want them to do one mechanical task for 100 years
