This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.

Super Bowl viewers Sunday speculated that 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos appeared in the halftime show. In fact, he has been in hiding with his family.

“He can’t sleep well at night. He wakes up three or four times a night screaming, ‘Daddy, Daddy,’” Liam's father Adrian Conejo Arias, said.

36 years ago today, 14 women, most of whom were studying engineering, were killed by an anti-feminist gun man at École Polytechnique in Montreal. I was a young graduate student studying physics at the time and I will never forget. #MontrealMassacre #NeverForget 🧪 👩‍🔬 ⚛️ 🎢 #AcademicSky 🇨🇦

Basic light pollution diagram showing four different streetlight set ups ranging from more light pollution on the left to less light pollution on the right. The most pollution option, labelled "very bad" is a street lamp with a round uncovered bulb on top, making a sphere of light in the air. The next option, labelled "bad" has a tiny cap on top, that limits the upward pollution a bit. The "better" option is mostly uncovered on top, limiting pollution above the streetlight. The final option, labelled "best" has a full shroud overtop, limiting the light to only below the streetlight, where it is needed for pedestrians and vehicles.

Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

Regardless of fox’s actual rabies status.

This is your reminder vaccinate for rabies. Always. Even if indoor only.

The ONLY way to test for rabies is euthanize the animal and remove brain tissue. There is no live test for rabies and your state/local health department will not play

Scientific breakthroughs are rarely unique; someone else would’ve made them soon enough. But when prominent scientists cause harm, that harm isn’t inevitable; the world might simply have been better had the harm not been inflicted.

James Watson, dead at 97, was a scientific legend and a pariah among his peers James Watson, the co-discoverer of the structure of DNA who died Thursday at 97, was a scientific legend and a pariah among his peers.

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Fascinating study. For every 1000 bears in an area, there is an associated 4% increased likelihood of a bigfoot sighting. 🧪

“Medicine doesn’t treat the root cause, it just treats the symptoms.”

—Every wellness grifter ever

Should someone tell them that we LITERALLY eradicated smallpox from humanity because we identified the root cause?

The root cause is the Variola virus.

As has happened with veterinarians. Now being a vet pays less, vets are far more likely to get exploited by big corporations... pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...

*by vets I mostly mean corporate clinics but private practices have less resources to work with so prices are competitive across clinics

11 months ago 0 0 0 0

unfortunately the price increases are driven by manufacturers (ie pharmaceutical companies/ other medical supplies) raising their prices, which forces vets to raise their prices to support overhead fees… but the actual vet staff don’t get raises- including techs/ VAs, who often get minimum wage

Are Humans the Only Musical Species? Even those of us who can’t play a musical instrument or lack a sense of rhythm can perceive and enjoy music. But are we alone?

"While not all animals appear to have musical skills like beat perception or relative pitch, it has become increasingly likely that musicality has a biological basis and a long evolutionary history."

No, they don’t contain “endocrine disruptors”

Second: I already wrote about the nonsense re number of vaccinations.

Read it here: news.immunologic.org/p/more-vacci...

Third: hep B is not just transmitted sexually. You can learn about that in the linked article you obviously didn’t read.
