Huge defensive stats + learns Body Press, low speed + learns Trick Room, three type immunities, can't be faked out, can catch people with Ally Switch and proc its unique ability, plus several other neat supporting moves and great shiny colour to boot. Truly the GOAT that people are sleeping on.

I had to select the dumb AI guitars/garden hoses to get into the pokemon center today. After already getting error'd on my desktop, when I got captcha'd on my phone I made sure I tapped slowly/irregularly, and also selected and then deselected a wrong answer on each one before continuing. No issues.

The trick is that captcha's have already known the correct answers for ages now (otherwise they wouldn't know if you answered correctly or not), they're measuring how you answer them. It's also how the "i'm not a robot" box works - its already watching your mouse movement before you even click it.

Finished editing last night and after fixing a minor render issue, my Pokemon Shield DTQ is uploaded and ready to drop this Friday! Much like my Unova one, I put a lot of work into making something more than just a DTQ, so I hope you enjoy what i've been cooking over the last few months!

Yeah, from a game design perspective it definitely felt a bit weird that all of the new pokemon didn't let you interact with the mega evolution mechanic, but with the hindsight of knowing they wouldn't be a (fully) permanent addition, I'm glad they didn't initially give megas to Kalos pokemon in XY.

I wouldn't be surprised if Orbeetle might have had more mechanical/UFO characteristics or if Coalossal could have had more of the steam furnace motif in their base forms if they weren't given a special temporary bonus transformation within the same generation as their debut.

If XY had ZA Megas, Mega Hawlucha would no longer be "Cooler Hawlucha", Hawlucha would instead be "less-cool Mega Hawlucha" - and consequently, aspects of Hawlucha's concept might have even been toned down because it no longer had to stand on its own as a concept.

Part of the meta reasoning for making megas was to reimagine/exaggerate features of Pokemon that had been made. You can't really redesign something that's still being made, and exaggerating the features of something doesn't work if people aren't already familiar with the baseline for comparison.

No shade to my good buddypalfriendchum grem but I feel I gotta give this perspective whenever this topic comes up: If Kalos Pokemon had been designed with megas to start with, they probably would have felt incomplete without them.
