Can't say for sure because it really depends on how much they would understand or even listen to your point. Best thing to do is explain why and hope to come to an understanding but there are times you need distance because it's just not worth the effort.

I think finding an avatar that you feel comfortable in is much better than using one that fits other people's taste. I agree, having little clothing options is restrictive and the only hope is for third party conversion tools to be made available.
