Exclusive: US Marines carry out first known detention of civilian in Los Angeles, video shows Marines deployed to Los Angeles carried out the detention of a civilian on Friday, the U.S. military confirmed after being presented with Reuters images, in the first known detention by active-duty troops deployed there by President Donald Trump.

An Army vet heading to the VA took a wrong turn—and was detained by Marines in LA. While they acted professionally, their detaining him was likely illegal under the Posse Comitatus Act. It’s another line being crossed—and it puts our Marines in a bad spot. www.reuters.com/world/us/us-...

The military isn’t being employed to carry out an immigration policy.

The immigration policy, and especially the way the administration is choosing to carry it out, is an excuse to call out the military.

Nazi Germany surrendered in May 1945. For Americans, the Second World War would rage for three more months, until VJ Day in August. But for Russians and those influenced by them, "Victory Day" falls in May. Trump follows the Russian practice, not the American.

No one should be above the law, most especially the President.

Ignoring a Supreme Court ruling to facilitate Kilmar Abrego Garcia's return isn't just cruel; it's unconstitutional.

They're saying the quiet part aloud — if they get away with it now, they'll do it to anyone.

To make matters even worse, the Court vacated the TROs based upon a close-to-frivolous substantive argument that's inconsistent w/a binding SCOTUS precedent (Pedreiro) the Court doesn't so much as mention. (See Point 2 & the FN of the post below.) Augurs ill.

Howard Lutnick, is that you?

Precisely. That a conservative supporter of Trump can write the section about the necessity of accepting election defeat without any apparent irony just places him outside of any sense of shared reality with me (unless the comment about eschewing democracy is a threat/promise)

I think that is clearly correct but also not necessarily in contrast to this message. In terms of social media messaging I don’t think it is a problem to try to humanise a victim of what is an inhumane program - that is, putting a face to the victims.

“Properly understood, this duty requires a president not to enforce unconstitutional statutes or powers even after the Supreme Court has wrongly upheld them.” And here I was thinking that Article III established that the court said what the law was…

Pretty amazing for a recusal motion to suggest it is trying to avoid “any suggestion of impartiality” - surely an all time fail of a typo

I have been a Democratic activist in NY for 45 years. I will not forget or forgive Senators who vote for cloture on this CR. This is the time to force the GOP to get rid of the filibuster. This is the time to go down fighting.

I will vote for primary opponents.

Interesting that they don’t mention police unions which probably have the most corrosive impact of any collective bargaining institution
