Spotted in his kitchen, prep for his ramen. Spring onions, mustard leaf, rate beef (leftover from the steak dinner I took him for last night), portobello mushrooms, dried beef broth & seaweed. He’s 87, lives in his own, but is most precise.

Popped in to see my Dad in Brighton before lunch this morning.1/2

In between firing the M6 on a sunny Sunday in Brighton, I stopped off at my favourite tailor to get a 1930s style English drape cut double breasted suit made in this Prince of Wales flannel #suits #leica #leicam6 #brighton

Revisiting my work made with Leica Monochrom cameras — still my favourite digital cameras for black and white, and the closest I’ve felt digitally to shooting film.

It’s a wonderful feeling. More editing and redrafting to do, and then, who knows what will ever happen to it, but I feel as if I have climbed my mountain.
It is exactly One Year and Two Days since I started writing my first novel and this evening, after a busy day at work and hearing in the morning, I FINISHED writing the final chapter, chapter thirty-two.

Some favourite non-alcoholic beers.
Since my booze reset this year (6 weeks off, followed by systematic restraint) I’ve been testing the zero market.
The surprise is how good some of them now are. Properly good. Not the thin, vaguely apologetic liquids they used to be.

1. The Magic Mountain: started nearly a year ago, now on p. 470, about two-thirds through. A slow book, and I’m a slow reader. One for when time feels elastic.

For the early kick off in a fixture that in one sense no longer matters, but for the football fan everything matters. Come on U Rss!

Train to London for a work meeting this afternoon. I think I bought this suit about 20 years. It was a struggle to get into it, but I got into it.
4. Pinkard’s guide: helpful for the above. One way of checking each step as I go.
I do most of my reading on the Kindle app on my iPad, especially useful when copying and working with text, but I still prefer to have the physical books to hand.
3.Hegel’s Phenomenology: my fourth or fifth attempt. This time, very slowly: two or three propositions at a time, then working through them properly. Still at the lowest level of consciousness.
