I don't know about you but the epidural lulled me into a false sense of security. Once that and the pain block were completely off by last Thursday or Friday, it was a whole different ball game. I have improved somewhat since then. Lots of tightness from the sutures, but the recovery walks are good.
As I spend the next several weeks recovering from my hernia mesh procedure, limited to brief, tepid recovery walks for now, it occurs to me that, if careless drivers had to go through this surgery, let alone everything else I have been through, I suspect some would pay a lot more attention.
There's a war on for your mind.

I filled in the survey and so can you! tomorrow is the deadline, so get on that. headlight glare is bad for other drivers of course, but also for pedestrians and cyclists and other non-car travellers. tell them to regulate that shit!
Thanks Lorne. Fingers crossed 🫰
The hernia procedure went extremely well by all accounts.
If I'm totally honest, I'm absolutely done with the fucking wind in Colwood and on the West Shore. It's become obvious there's almost never a day without significant wind.
We'll be remedying that soon enough, as buying over here has been a mistake in a few ways.

Happy 'ventral hernia repair with prosthetic mesh and myofascial advancement' eve to all who celebrate.
I'm really not sure that Magyar is a lot better than Orban, but this seems like pretty good news regardless, and one less Trump ally strongman in power can't be a bad thing.

1. Here’s a thread on #NIMBY (“not in my backyard”) and the challenges of change in cities:
First off, although it might feel that way, NIMBY isn’t unique to your city, and it’s (probably) not worse in your city than anywhere else. It’s also not surprising, since it’s largely about human nature.
As if Canadians didn't know the entire ostrich "scientific value" argument was complete bullshit. The owners of that farm should be responsible for paying for the cull.

It never fucking stops.
Imagine if Biden or Obama had been a blatant self-enriching, dishonest, constantly-grifting war-monger tax, wife and business cheat?
I really hope, with a rebuild underway, that the #Canucks fully clean house. The Rutherford run as president and Allvin run as GM should come to an end. They mishandled many things and didn't maintain confidentiality when they should have.
I think Ryan Johnson / Manny Malhotra should take charge.
Photo of the lack of a crosswalk flashing lights at the corner of Painter and Metchosin Road.
How on earth can the city of #Colwood not have a crosswalk with flashing lights at Painter to cross Metchosin Road? Painter is a designated bike route and Metchosin is nonstop cars.
I am really growing to hate running, walking and riding around here.
So nice to see the #GallopingGoose #walkandroll #aaa bridge over the Island Highway finally open. And yes, it's as smooth to ride over as it looks. They really did a nice job.

Baker is spectacular today from Colwood.

Plus, they have soluble fiber (most people don't get enough), which helps BP and cholesterol AND they are easier on the environment. Win-win-win.
I don't understand why there are few recommendations to eat beans/tofu. If people have health issues/limited income they are a cheaper and healthier source of protein. The learning curve for preparing them is tiny.
All I see in popular and social media is complaints about the price of ground beef.
Also, as opposed to helping with a weakness as I’d originally been led to believe, the main purpose of the injections is to stretch and relax the muscles for complicated hernia procedures, so they can more easily work the mesh in and seal the opening.
T minus ten days and counting.
It’s now been five days since I had my Botox injections. I had three on either side of my abdomen, by my obliques, not the belly button as I anticipated.
With persistent lower ab distention, I find a hernia strap helps a lot, as the sensation is that of muscular relaxation and limited contraction.
Some time ago, I was getting worried because I couldn't find my cellphone ... while I was talking on it. Brain injuries are fun.
It's sad that there is no truly progressive option for us in Canada, because the conservatives aren't remotely fit to govern.
Carney has been a major disappointment on a few fronts now, most notably the environment and the entire notion of "elbows up."
Sorry, but given how badly the BC NDP fucked up with their enhanced care, no-fault insurance model for ICBC, I don't have any faith in their new healthcare oversight rules.
It would be so nice if BC had a truly progressive option that puts regular people first.
Had a Botox injection today to prep for hernia procedure in two weeks, as they will be dealing with the actual hernia and a weakness under my belly button.
I must say I am disappointed that the area around my belly button doesn't have fuller lips, fewer wrinkles, or look any younger at all.
Fun getting back to Victoria from Vancouver yesterday. The car was packed to head to the ferry, but the 12-volt battery in our plug-in hybrid died and the car wouldn't start. Thanks to roadside assistance and a kind dealer, we were able to get a boost and the battery replaced, all under warranty.
We need a vehicle weight tax. If you can justify buying an $80k, 3,000 kg Wagoneer to haul one bag of groceries, taxpayers shouldn't be subsidizing your pavement wear and tear plus the added danger to our streets. If you can afford the payments, you can afford to stop asking society to subsidize it.
What in the ever-loving fuck? How on Earth can this even happen over an accounting error? He's 63, in remission from colon cancer and struggles with emphysema, and he's becoming homeless because of $74.
This is absolutely obscene.
AQP Management should be ashamed.
