thinking now about how you need to have computer and internet access to live in the modern world and the government would 100% take those away from us for being queer
remembering how when i was in highschool my internet history (nsfw yahoo answers questions by OTHER PEOPLE) was used to revoke my computer privileges when 3/5ths of my classes were computer based classes and even if i aced the other 2 i wouldn't have enough credits to graduate at the end of the year
you're so damn skinny, so weak each breath a struggle.
as she finishes her notes you manage to say her name, and as she comes to observe you, you ask if you did well. all you want is one kind word before the end.
she takes a long, clinical look at you
finally she says
"your data was sufficient."
she never cared about you. the kindness was a front, a deception to get you to volunteer for her study.
and now as you near the end of the tests and your ability to adapt to them, your pleas fall on deaf ears.
you lie there on the desk at the end, completely limp, eyes sunken, breathing labored.
by the end of the third week you're nearing the end of the trials, but also your ability to tolerate it.
you've coded several times now, and each time she's brought you back from the brink, unwilling to let a little thing like cardiac arrest end the study early.
now that you realize it was all a lie
and then it's combinations of these.
sleep deprivation AND drugging. sensory overload AND exercise. starvation AND pain. and this is where your body begins to fail you. your mind starting to erode...
you consented early on and that's all that matters to her. she won't stop while you yield results.
the next proves to be even worse. she's colder to you now, but your trust in her hasn't wavered - she's earned it, right?
but then comes the stress tests. the pain tolerance measurements. the effects of prolonged fasting. how various chemicals change your mind and body.
you're more than happy to help.
the tests are fairly benign the first couple days: blood work, reflex testing, running on a treadmill to establish baselines...
but by the end of the week things start to ramp up: sensory deprivation, interrupted sleep, skipped meals...
rescued from terrible fate by a kindly and not-mad scientist who gives you a safe place to stay as she nurses you back to health.
you ask how you could ever repay her, she says that's not necessary.
buuut, if you insist, she could use someone of your size for her research. to study.

oh! it's a new(er) game that seems to be a MOBA styled character-focused objective shooter like Overwatch, Marvel Rivals and TF2
i dunno i just heard it has a lot of attractive women characters who may be canonically or fan interpreted to be lesbians
the other reference is about Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock, a turn-based space rts that came out a couple years ago
(editor's note: this joke is several months out of date now)
wait deadlock is about lesbians?? i thought it was about beating the cylons with missile spam-

my grammatical ability developed significantly between the first and third novella. so much so that when i went back to edit the first after finishing the third i was both delighted at the content of my first work AND found plenty to improve upon which felt really good to fix up
