Woot! #AtmosphereConf
#henhouse needs $5k to register as a legal co-op, lease servers, and finish the customer portal. It's a small ask by design. We know how to stretch a dollar, and every dollar is publicly tracked at opencollective.com/henhouse. Get involved! #degoogle
The latest episode of the #Limeleaf podcast has dropped! We talked small tech with @coreysnipes.com . Put it in your ears at limeleaf.coop/podcast/epis..., subscribe to the feed at limeleaf.coop/podcast/rss...., or search for it in your favorite #podcast app.
We're building #HenhouseWebHosting in public and welcome contributions! If you want to help with coding and testing, or with reviewing our draft legal agreements, post in the comments. We will also take money at opencollective.com/henhouse/ ๐ #buildinpublic
Shout out to @extremely.website, our most recent henhouse.coop member-owner!

Almost every web hosting provider relies on Amazon, Google, or Microsoft infrastructure. We're creating Henhouse to operate on independent servers owned by small businesses and co-ops. And we made Henhouse a co-op, too! Learn more and contribute at opencollective.com/henhouse #noBigTech
Very early stages, but at least we have the domain and marketing site up.

Automatic TLS cert provisioning are working via @letsencrypt.bsky.social using Go's `autocert` pkg (pkg.go.dev/golang.org/x...) so folks that sign up to use #Henhouse can have certificates for their own custom domains.

Using the Popover API to avoid any JavaScript is pretty neat.

I got our (@limeleaf.coop) static site hosting app to provision TLS certs directly without the use of anything else (Caddy, nginx, etc.). It's complete with a web dashboard to manage custom domains, permissions, upload tokens, etc. as a single distributable binary.

Update! We officially canceled our Google Workspace subscription today.
We're planning to launch Henhouse, a cooperatively owned, democratically managed cloud service for values-driven organizations. First up is web hosting, future services TBD by member convo & vote.

Update! Limeleaf member @straub.dev found a fork of Mattermost that removes the 10,000 message limit. Problem solved: framagit.org/framasoft/fr...
The Limeleaf Worker Collective's Big Tech divestment is...complete!

Update!
As of today, limeleaf.coop email is going to Fastmail. limeleaf.net will stay in Gmail for now but we'll move it over when we cancel our Workspace subscription. All of our Google Drive folders have been migrated to Nextcloud.
Look for more details and advice for others in a blog post soon!
We'll have all of this in place and migrate over in mid-January!
Unfortunately, Nextcloud doesn't include a mail server. We considered hosting our own server, but didn't want the admin hassles, so we're moving from Gmail to @fastmail.com
Google Workspace > our own @nextcloud.bsky.social server. It does everything we need for file storage, calendar, document editing, etc., and has an active app store with cool stuff (an RSS reader!). Best of all, it will cost us about $12 a month thanks to the great folks at PikaPods.com.
We moved our source code from GitHub > Codeberg and our website from GitHub Pages > Statichost.eu
#Slack was the first to go, in 2024. We host our own #Mattermost server and have been very happy with it.
Around the same time, we moved all password and secret management to @bitwarden.bsky.social
We are replacing our Big Tech apps with as many self-hosted, open-source alternatives as possible. ๐ ๐งต
Episode 8 of the Limeleaf Podcast is live. Topics include: Ethernet, #Bluesky, #ATProtocol, apply.coop, owning tech vs. renting it, Silicon Valley's devolution from cuddly unicorn to bloodthirsty monster, tech ICs are the new working class, and more.
Listen now at limeleaf.coop/podcast/epis... !
We recorded our 2025 year-end wrap-up #podcast this morning. Look for the drop in your feed early next week!
The Limeleaf Worker Collective Big Tech divestment continues!
This week:
- Moved source code for our (newly redesigned!) website from GitHub > Codeberg
- Hosting for said website moved from GitHub Pages > Statichost.eu
Next up: Google Workspace > kSuite Pro
If/when you commit, I'd be happy to discuss how we are structured and operate.
Sure, just DM us.
Thank you, Boris! We are great at software, not so good at marketing. We did a whole episode about #ATProto without mentioning that, YES, we build ATProto products/services/integrations! ๐ limeleaf.coop/services/at-...
Another installment of the Limeleaf #podcast takes to the ether! The brilliant @bmann.ca educates us about ATProtocol tech and culture. Is #ATProto the future of social media? Find out at limeleaf.coop/podcast or wherever you dig your pods (alas, no YouTube, sorry).
A new episode of The Limeleaf Podcast is live! We discuss the evolution of computer science in higher education, the impact of #AI (naturally), and...robot slurs? Put it in your ears at limeleaf.coop/podcast/epis... or wherever you get your shows! #podcasting
