Need a freelance editor?
I'm lucky enough to be busy with reporting work but I'd love to take on more editing if any games/tech outlets need it. I've spent about half of my career as an editor, including at BBC News, on everything from breaking news to long-read investigations

Some news - today I’m launching One More Catch, an independent publication covering Pokémon Go and the next generation of Pokémon games: @onemorecatch.site
Fantastic reporting, Lewis. Really enjoyed reading it
A reported feature I've long wanted to write:
For @eurogamer.bsky.social, I draw a direct line from Black & White's creature AI to the world-transforming ambitions of Google DeepMind, with the inside scoop on Lionhead's starry-eyed, stoner culture of the time.

I wrote about Fortnite's precarious future for @pcgamer.com: Devs are being told to drive "engagement" with fewer resources, just as fan goodwill leaks away.
If you're an Epic dev, DMs open or I'm sphorti@gmail.com (use non-work device/email). Shares appreciated!

Jank has been going for 2 months. In that time we’ve published over 100 articles. We are not fuckin around. Here's a rundown of our work so far.

A replica of Thomas the Tank Engine being transported on a large flatbed truck. It’s strapped down in multiple places and the face portion is covered by a large black bag
Thomas gets taken to a black ops site
The home page for website One More Catch, with the lead story headlined: "Playing Pokémon Champions next week? Start transferring from Pokémon Go now"
Lovely homepage ahead of the long weekend.
Dash is an experienced tech journalist who specializes in video games, electronic entertainment products, and the wider industry that surrounds them. He currently serves as the Gaming Editor at TechRadar, leading our review, preview, feature, and news coverage of the latest and greatest releases. Before joining the team, he was Contributing Writer at PLAY (formerly Official PlayStation Magazine UK) and has written articles for many of the UK's other biggest gaming magazines including the likes of Edge, PC Gamer, and SFX. Now, when he's not getting his greasy little mitts on the newest hardware or gaming gadget, he can be found listening to J-pop or feverishly devouring the latest Nintendo Switch otome.
I think I genuinely forgot to announce that I've been the Gaming Editor of the UK's biggest technology website for more than seven months now.
You can find my contact email for article pitches or press releases on my author page, or reach out via DMs to chat!
This week's newsletter: PlayStation price rises aren't about Sony’s greed. It’s an indication of the rot at the heart of big tech, which has become a closed economic system predicated on making things worse for most of us so that a very few can make billions.

"Bungie's first game in nine years has reminded me what it means for a studio to have a 'house style'. I'm not just talking about an eye for world building, gorgeous environments and skyboxes, or a dense codex that inspires main menu idling—I'm talking raw first-person shooting excellence."
Ah fair. I guess I'll work that out when I finally get near the centre of the map!
Yeah that's fair. Especially in first 10 hours, you need something to pull you around the maps
Really interesting counterpoint to Marathon praise from @brendyc.bsky.social. Agree or not, it's worth reading!
My issue with Marathon's quests is that unlike Arc they're mandatory for progress (unlock perks, upgraded gear) AND they're really fiddly at times, asking you to reach three points on the map (hard if you're playing in a team of randos).
Still loving Marathon, though! The shooting is electric
How many runs did it take you to feel confident in the map? I've had a couple of losing runs and just feel like I'm chucking away 5K each time...
Some of the sparkleaf ones are bruuutal. Finally finished when I got lucky and found teammates who just wanted to help
Crimson Desert blends whoop-inducing bombast with brain-smoothing banality — like a prestige take on Candy Crush.
I've never played a game that has felt more hard-wired for the attention economy: every frame, menu, and interaction seems to radiate this commercial ideology.
I'm praising Marathon (again) for IGN, this time specifically for the speed you can drop enemies. I used to think the time to kill was too low, but now I think it's genius. Have a read! www.ign.com/articles/mar...
Can't get enough of Marathon's Thief class. A drone for recon, grapple for mobility, and x-ray specs that tell you where good loot is (so you can ignore low-level chests). Plus a pickpocketing drone is just so dastardly.
Wrote about the class for IGN earlier this week:

We have fun.
My full interview with @meghna.bsky.social and @hugobille.bsky.social will be in PC Gamer soon, but here's a quick news story from my chat:
All Will Rise studio joins No Games For Genocide boycott and plans to hand back funding it received from Microsoft

OH SNAP! YOUR GIRL DIA WROTE A THING FOR REMAP ABOUT STAR TREK AND TRYING TO KILL TOM PARIS LFG!!!!!!!
Marathon is brutal and ruthless — the perfect game for these cut-throat, perniciously cynical times. I wrote up my impressions for @theguardian.com.

It was a delight to chat with journalist Jack Ryan (@jacksonwryan.com) for Worth Reading this week, about his excellent (but distressing) piece in @aftermath.site about the way casinos, crypto, and AI are junking up your favorite web sites podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/w...
One last plug for my @remapradio.bsky.social piece on the consolidation - and decay - of football video games, and the parallels with the sport itself. Thanks to @mossrc.bsky.social for his expert insight on the FIFA/PES rivalry (and much more!)
Haven't mentioned yet that I wrote the cover feature for the current issue of Edge. Pick up a copy while it's still on sale!
Did you know that No Law is a proper immersive sim, in the style of Deus Ex and Dishonored? I flew to Sweden in January so that you could read all about it.
