Used Lidar scans to create a 3D printed map of the land I grew up on. Pretty fun project! Managed to get a lot more detail than I expected.

Yeah it's got its pros and cons. If you're unlikely to ever significantly change what's in the drawer, then not being constrained by the grid is better.
We're renting, so at some point I'm going to have to move all this stuff to a different drawer, so being able to re-configure is a plus for me.
Love to see it!
I have a similar drawer that I did with gridfinity. I intended to come back and finish replacing the green organizer but it works as is, so it's fallen to the back burner.
Very cool! Would love to know how well this holds up over time. I can see it going either way - being more durable or less durable than the original.
I have designs in my head for an open-top toolbox that will hold four 24" rows of of panels, and you can hang them on the outside of the toolbox for easy access while you're using them.
That's 8 square feet of pegboard-like storage, modularized and one-hand carryable!
It's currently such a mental load to choose the tools I'm going to put in the toolbox when I'm going somewhere. It will be much easier if they are grouped onto panels, so I don't have to make so many choices. And hopefully I'll be less likely to forget something.
Created a prototype today for a tool storage concept. The idea is to have panels that can be hung either on the wall in the workshop or be placed into a toolbox to take on the go.
When you're heading out, you take a look at the wall and pick which panels to put in the toolbox, and you're off!
a 3D-printed object filled with steel shot mixed into caulking. There is a tiny bit of rust forming amongst the steel shot.
It's been about a week, and it seems like it worked great! No rattling, the prints feel amazing - a really nice premium-feeling weight to them.
There is a little bit of rust forming (see pic). It could potentially grow to the extent that it tries to push out of the print, but I doubt it.
After about two days, the caulking is still malleable and tacky, but that's not really an issue. I think I should have added more caulk to the mixture because some pieces of the shot are loose, but not enough to cause noticable rattling. They might start rattling when the caulking dries more though.
Nice! Did you get the tolerance right on the first try for a good fit?
Trying a new method of using a slurry of steel shot mixed with caulking to add weight to 3D prints. Not very easy to work with, but it seems like it will work. Will have to wait and see how it cures.

Super happy with this project. The keyboard is the Scylla by bastardkb.com And I designed custom quick-release plates and custom stands. This was my first time creating 3d-printed springs, and they work great!
Getting tolerances right is not easy, but I'm getting better at it.
I switched maybe a year ago. Very glad I did!
Yep! The person I'm giving it to does some model painting, so I'm leaving it to them how much finishing they want to do on it.
That could be a good approach! Although one of the reasons I did it this way is so I could do the entire print with zero supports. I think you'd have to have a few supports if you did it that way, but they'd probably be manageable.
This was a lot of new territory for me, trying to get a good amount of detail. I used 0.1 mm layers.
I also embedded a piece of scrap metal in it to give it some weight. Makes it roll real nice!

Two halves of a 3D printed model car, before being glued together.
My 3-year-old nephew wanted to give his dad a model of his old car to him for Father's day, so I helped him out! It's a Pontiac Grand Prix.
How would you have designed this project? I think the center seam turned out okay, but there are lots of ways you could do it.

I really gotta deal with this humidity situation at some point.. ๐ฌ

Do the pins of your window screens look like this?
3D print new handles and heat-set them on!
Printed in PETG. Will be interesting to see how well it holds up to the sunlight over time.

And so the journey begins.

Custom grip for Logitech vertical mouse. The stock mouse doesn't support your palm at all, but I find it quite comfortable now.
This was very tough to do with the tools I have, took several prints to get the fit right, and still had to file down some parts.

Glass bowl and glass
Really happy how this turned out! The glassware came from goodwill, and I found two of each piece so I can swap them out and throw them in the dishwasher. The 3D printed parts don't touch the water at all, there's a silicone drinking straw that runs from the pump up through the spout.

A fairly mundane print, but I think it came out well! And it installs by slipping between the countertop and the vanity and clamping from behind, so no holes left behind if it's removed. This was also my first time using heat-set thread inserts!
Did they work out for you? This is my first time sharing a model for others to print, it would be really cool to see a pic of it installed on your switch!
I probably won't buy another Bambu Lab printer: youtu.be/91kfolYkRNM
That's fair. Bad companies make good products all the time! I don't buy Apple products myself, but apparently the Mac Studio computers are fantastic.
It's just not worth the loss of your consumer rights in the long run. Use the printers you've got but don't give them a penny more IMO.
The 3D printing community is full of the most innovative and DIY people. We CANNOT allow the proprietary bs that is rampant in many product sectors seep into the 3D printing space.
I strongly encourage you to boycott Bambu Lab, NO EXCEPTIONS.
We are hackers and makers, not consumers.

I'm currently working on the software side of this project, a fully customized install of NixOS to replace my Roku. Let me know if you want to see the results of that when it's ready, I'll probably post those on my main account @yooper.cc

The original laptop (left) and the new 3D printed case for its guts (right)
I retired my laptop from being my daily driver, but I wanted to keep it useful, so I took the guts out and re-housed them in a 3D printed case that I designed myself.
This is another example of using other materials in a 3D printed project. The side panels are hardboard.

I think I improved my first-layer adhesion recently by upping my bed temp, though it could have been a coincidence. Have you found that this can help?
