I just made such a powerful and necessary improvement to one of my very favorite poems… God’s timing is always right fr.

Like be so fucking for real. What a fool.
The discovery in this lawsuit, if it happens, would be very likely to end Kash Patel’s career if not his life.
Impeach all the motherfuckers. Every single goddamned one.
Ah. We have very different assumptions about the world. I wish you all joy in walking through the world you imagine. :)
Thank you so much!
I am particularly talking about a very particular reading of the fourth section of the first poem which just occurred to me today, after publication. I haven’t written a whole piece about this idea (yet). But here it is…

The fact that every major police union endorsed Donald Trump is under appreciated in our political discourse.
Thank you so much for reading. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
But like, this poem, which if you read closely, expresses the sentiment “yeah I bottom for America but at least I paint” is published in a magazine! That people will read! Y’all are never gonna get me to quit poetry my god on today.
*baldly but also badly why not
In what context could you get a magazine to print that idea aside from poetry! Honestly tho it deserves to be stated that badly, maybe I’ll put that in one of the self-critique poems in part 2 of the piece.
Just thinking about my poem again and like “yeah I bottom for America but at least I paint” does kinda sum up a certain kind of artistic-intellectual response to Our Predicament.
An Audra album highlighting not just settings of Black works by white composers but Black new musical theater writers??? Or at least all writers of color?? It would eat SO BAD omg.
Don’t get me wrong it’s a gorgeous song. But…
Very interesting!!
Audra McDonald’s Way Back To Paradise is a fascinating document in retrospect in terms of what it looked like as a Black artist working in white disciplines in the 1990s to try and perform (non-derogatory) Blackness.
I also want to live at least once as a social scientist. Once as a social scientist, once as a poet, and once as a bureaucrat. Then I’ll be ready for my next life as a poor itinerant preacher and do-gooder
But it’s probably just the old thing where the “urban” whites in the Deep South are mostly suburban whites who have duped themselves into thinking they are rural and so vote like the imagined rural subject. I am actually really fascinated to know this.
It would be interesting if an American politician went on a listening tour of white urban professionals in the South. What if the “AI revolution” proletarianizing white collar professionals ends the seventh party system by bringing educational polarization at last to white Southerners?
I mean if white college educated southerners start voting like white college educated northerners it would mean the end of the current party system and the absolute destruction of the Republican coalition as currently formed. But I’m not holding my breath.
Oh and Mississippi isn’t flipping either way, sorry. :/ the math is not mathing.
Like say the core constituency of the Republican Party rather than being 40% of the country distributed favorably for senate races were 15% of the country distributed poorly. Spread out the rest of the electoral spectrum to fill the 25% hole left. What do things look like politically for Black ppl?
An interesting question is: if the Republican Party didn’t exist as a political force in this country, what would be the next steps forward in advancing justice for Black Americans and what would be the best political vehicle to advance them.
I remain very cautiously optimistic but like you I will not have any real faith until we get favorable returns out of both Houston AND the RGV on election night.
And there you have it, the absolute ceiling on Democrats’ electoral fortunes. Ofc, if we did win a national election by 30 points, we could probably pass a constitutional amendment banning the Republican Party.
So there’s a new TX-Sen poll I take it?
OTOH we should have known Guettel was headed towards the Republican Party from when he decided to not just write but perform in the number about breaking up with his girlfriend bc she had an abortion, so. :/
I would say Mack and Mabel but honestly it isn’t underrated by theater heads anymore and thanks in part to Bernadette’s concerts “Time Heals Everything” is basically a belated standard. Myths and Hymns / Saturn Returns, however…
Myths and Hymns is really one of the most underrated musical theater scores of all time.
OF ALL TIME!!!
