I won’t be attending AERA in person, but I recommend the Friday 9:45 a.m. PST structured poster session, “How Data Science Education Can Enable Exploration of Real-World Phenomena.” My poster shares one piece of my dissertation on a humanistic approach to elementary data science through embodiment.
Congratulations to Curriculum & Instruction assistant professor Devon Hedrick-Shaw on receiving the Outstanding Dissertation Award, third place, from the Bilingual Education Research SIG of @aeraedresearch.bsky.social
This is the most delightful thing I’ve ever read
Thanks for sharing. I wonder if there are categories of “tedium” in there? Many coders I know point to how ai is helping them get through the “slog” while they still need to drive the “visioning”? I imagine it’s all in that large yellow circle but am curious your take.

When I talk about the speculative, I always make sure to say that’s it’s not inherently equitable or just. White supremacy is speculative AF, creative AF. The current moment is a white supremacist dreamscape, a reimagining of a world where equity is even possible.

Left: Minimal line art drawing of a cat that is enclosed in a pink rectangle. Label: Kitten is completely full of crimes Right: the same cat art but twice the size. The same size rectangle covers only the bottom of the cat. Label: Adult cat contains the same amount of crimes but it does not dominate all of their behaviors
For the last 3 years, I have co-organized an AI & Education Conference that brings together about 1000 educators to talk about the latest in K-12 education with AI. This year's focus is on educator/student/community led innovation with AI: centering community voice.

Image of a course flyer that explains what the course, storying as research methodology” is all about. It includes the questions the course will ask, the books students enrolled will read, and an account of the work students will do.
I meant to share here yesterday, but I forgot. I made a flyer for my storying-focused grad class that I’ll be teaching next fall, and I think it’s cute!!
An executive at a former company sent me and my team an irritating email. My colleague meant to forward it to me but accidentally responded to the sender with “asswipe.” Was a bit hard to explain that away!
The game looks great, and more importantly the jokes rolling in are amazing!
Sadly I am sure you are correct.
The benefits of therapy have been proven, but resources and a lack of therapists can get in the way of people receiving much needed help. But — the College of Education at the University of Illinois has a solution.
Gah!!!

We also have aqara locks / video doorbell which are solid. I don’t have direct experience with their stand-alone cameras but some quick searching doesn’t suggest Amazon or google owns them though it’s hard to say…
Fair. I just avoid the subscription but totally get that. Following in the hopes you hear great suggestions!!
We’ve been happy with “blink” and are able to keep it all local
I’m personally offended and will include this anecdote in all of my future talks! 🤣
This also ignores that it’s possible to look toward the front of a classroom without being attentive and at one’s phone or peer for good reason…
