Finally the membership selects a “People’s Choice Award” for the photo contest. The runner up was “Life in pink” by Sandra Flores-Mejia with the overall “People’s Choice Award” being presented to “Beauty in Diversity” by Shirmith Narmal.

In the Category “Research in Action” the 3rd place award went to “Weed ID in the Field” by Sandra Flores-Mejia. The 2nd place award went to “The reality of cranberry fields” by Gabriel Verret. The first place award went to “Counting CHEAL emergence” by Sandra Flores-Mejia.

In the category “Weeds” the 3rd place award went to “Wild oat at maturity” by Leighton Blashko. The 2nd place award went to “Beauty in Diversity” by Shirmith Nirmal. The 1st place award went to “Morning dew” Sandra Flores-Mejia.

In the Category “Agriculture and Forestry” the 3rd place was award to “What you looking at?” by Gabriel Verret. The 2nd place award was presented to “Life in Pink” by Sandra Flores-Mejia. The 1st place award was presented to “Sphagnum underneath pines” by Shirmith Nirmal.

Finally, the CWSS holds a photo contest, with photo awards sponsored by Corteva Agriscience. Check out the amazing images in this thread!

The 1st place award went to Saanchi Singh, Carleton University/CFIA for “Getting out of the weeds: Genomic tools for improving identification of noxious plant species”.

The 2nd place award went to Vanessa Jones, University of British Columbia, for “Functional microbial shifts and soil transfers as tools for post-invasion restoration”.

The Graduate Student Presentation awards are sponsored by Bayer CropScience. In 3rd place the award went to Matt Ball from the University of Alberta for his presentation “Machine learning and drone-derived vegetation indices for estimating herbicide-induced crop injury”.

The 1st place award was presented to “Role of aphids and weeds in the epidemiology of Cucumber mosaic virus in Quebec” by Sébastien Boquel, Alexis Latraverse, Sandrine Corriveau-Tousignant, Gabriel Verret, and Sanda Flores-Mejia.

The 2nd place award was presented to “Inventory of Quebec Weeds: Insights from the Centre-du-Québec region” by Gabriel Verret, Sandra Flores-Mejia, Josianne Caron, Amélie Picard, David Miville, Annie Marcoux, Bérenger Bourgeois, and Yosra Menchari.

The third place award was presented to “Functional synergy and genomic linkage of glyphosate resistance traits in Canada fleabane” by Eric Page, Sara Martin, Sydney Meloche, Alyssa Thibodeau, and Martin Laforest.

The CWSS also presents awards for the graduate student presentation competition, and the poster competition. The poster awards are sponsored by BASF.

The 2nd place scholarship, sponsored by Corteva Agriscience, was presented to Natalie Laforest, University of Alberta.

The 1st place scholarship, sponsored by Bayer CropScience, was presented to Vanessa Jones, University of British Columbia.

In addition, 3 Ph.D. student scholarships were awarded.

Three M.Sc. student scholarships were awarded this year.

The 2nd place scholarship, sponsored by Syngenta, was presented to Nirmal Shirmith, University of Manitoba

The Canadian Journal of Plant Science Outstanding Weed Science Paper Award, sponsored by Canadian Science Publishing, was presented to “Sublethal dosing exposure risk of kochia (Bassia scoparia (L.) A.J. Scott) to carfentrazone-ethyl” authored by Dr. Shaun Sharpe and Teanna Novak.

The Canadian Weed Science Society Fellow Award, sponsored by the Canadian Weed Science Society, was presented to Dr. David Clements, Trinity Western University.

The Excellence in Weed Science Award, sponsored by Corteva Agriscience, was presented to Dr. Eric Page, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
The Outstanding Early Career Professional, sponsored by the Canadian Weed Science Society, was presented to Dr. Shaun Sharpe, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.

The Outstanding Industry Member Award, sponsored by the Canadian Weed Science Society was presented to James Ferrier, Nufarm Agriculture.

The Excellence in Weed Extension Award, sponsored by the Canadian Weed Science Society, was presented to Dr. Charles Geddes, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
