A page from the NY Post website with the headline "Mamdani curse? Mets drop 10 straight games after NYC mayor hugs Mr., Mrs. Met" The reporters are Steven Vago, Craig McCarthy, Dan Martin and David Propper.
It took four reporters to write that story

The Melt grilled cheese and pulled pork sandwich at Cleveland's Progressive Field was so good that I didn't care when I got to my seat and discovered my ticket included free food.

Paul Wellstone's plane was sabotaged. leading to the crash that killed him.
This doesn't surprise me - it seemed like everytime I'd open Idealist, there would be four positions at StoryCorps. Seemed pretty clear there was *something* wrong at that workplace.
It's one of those games in Cleveland where roughly 14 people came out to the ballpark, they've fortified themselves heavily against the cold, and you can hear every word from every one of them.
Good times.

Today I turn 89. I’ve seen this country at its best and its worst, and I know how much community matters. For my birthday, I’m asking you to stand with PFLAG and support the work that’s helped so many in the LGBTQ+ community, including me. give.pflag.org/page/95493/d...
I cleaned this thread up a bit and posted it here (with photos!)

The St Louis world's fair was also where Ota Benga was imprisoned for display to fairgoers.
(Later he shared a cage with an orangutan in the Bronx Zoo.)

Star Trek The Original Series scene. We're in a CORRIDOR! A room door is open, and we see two crewmen spilling out into the hallway in red and blue uniforms. They are otherwise indecipherable tho because they are entirely enveloped in a big cloud of smoke. It's pouring out all around them and into the hallway area, like there's a Phish concert in there. Closed caption reads, "[COUGHING]"
"Sauce from a jar? You're serving us sauce from a jar?!" [sound of dishes being thrown]

Seems like the thing that would work in that situation would be taxing corporations and billionaires to build a base of universal basic income and health insurance, and reducing the standard work week from 40 hours to 32, but for some reason those things are off the table.
My husband goes through the world with a positivity and openness that makes him friends whatever he goes, and it makes his experience of the world so much better (and mine by proxy). It's crazy to watch and has made me a believer n how much our approach to the world shapes it. It's not naive at all.
An instagram tile foe a show called Perra Vida showing an actor dressed as a dog, on all fours, with the title in bold red letters. It was sponsored by the Teopanzolco Cultural Center at Foro la Negra.
This was the show by the way. It was brave and funny and original and fierce. I would see Angelica Baños H in anything.
Again, you can look at it either way, but to me it was an act of kindness, not at all random, but a deliberate and practiced kind of care that is a way of living.
Anyway, I keep thinking about that this evening as I'm scrolling.

Or, you can choose to see the kindness in a woman looking out for a stranger, who will probably never set foot in her tienda again, and doing a little bit extra, unasked, to make sure he'll be treated fairly.
Something in the way she said "Nada más" just felt like, "Be careful out there."
One is, there are taxi drivers who will see this gringo waiting by the side of the road and tell him the cost is 50 pesos or 100 pesos or 200, and that sucks (although I can't imagine how taxistas live on 25 pesos a passenger, so it's a little hard to blame them).
Qnd then as I'm qbout to leave the woman at "Maggi" says, "The fare is 25 or 30 pesos. Nada más."
I guess you could look at this situation two ways.
So I go into the tienda "Maggi" and buy a coke and ask the woman there if that's where I can wait for a taxi or a bus, and she says yes, and answers my different questions. And I have not felt more like a sore-thumb USian in three months in this country, out in the woods hoping a taxi comes by.
And so the performance was cool, really great actually. but I had to get back home afterward. Getting there was easy, there were taxis out of the city. Getting back was like, stand by this light post and hope someone shows up.
Today I went to a performance at a theater way out in the woods in Mexico. The directions to get there were "take the bus up the mountain, and go past the first OXXO, and then past the second OXXO, and when you get to a little store called "Maggi" get out and walk half a mile up this other road.
Look it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been described as naive or Pollyanna and it won’t be the last.
But I’m so grateful for that. I’d hate to move through this world with that other mentality.
I would miss so much beauty or at least fail to appreciate it.
Y'all don't spend laundry day naked?
