Maybe the Commission should read the EU Treaties again. They are not there to defend the interests of the polluting industry.

A rejection from the @ec.europa.eu may be cold, but the response from the people is white-hot.
We are now 320+ organisations strong. While @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu turns her back, we are growing, plotting, and preparing. A ballroom this full doesn't stay quiet for long. #AntwerpCounterSummit

270+ organisations gathered. A ballroom prepared. And the Guest of Honour? She has declined the dance.
It seems @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu only has eyes for her industrial suitors. The @ec.europa.eu has officially refused to meet the people. A scandal.

If the EU wants to show real climate leadership, it must stop giving privileged access to those blocking climate action. #FossilFreePolitics #COP30

A letter signed by more than 100 organisations was sent to Hoekstra, asking not to bring fossil fuel lobbyists to COP30 🇧🇷

👍 Promisingly, there were no lobbyists in the official EU delegation last year

👎EU Member States still brought 113 lobbyists

6/ Therefore if its lobbyists can't tick the box, why should TotalEnergies be allowed to attend the UN climate talks in Brazil this November, aka COP30, which are working towards the goals of the Paris Agreement? It openly makes a mockery of the process.

5/ Now that a court has ruled that TotalEnergies' so-called "Paris-aligned" plan of being "net-zero emissions by 2050" is in fact greenwashing, and it's no longer able to claim such things, TotalEnergies is *not* "in full alignment" with "the goals and principles of the Paris Agreement"

4/ Thanks to years of hard work by the Kick Big Polluters Out campaign (which we're a member of), participants at this year's UN climate talks in Belém, Brazil, aka COP30, have to confirm if their participation is in "full alignment" with "the goal and principles of the Paris Agreement"

3/ "net-zero emissions by 2050" was the agreed goal of the Paris Agreement, signed at UN climate talks in 2015, aka COP21.

Since then, many fossil fuel companies, including Total, have adopted net zero plans while continuing with fossil fuel production, but have got away with it (until now).

French court convicts TotalEnergies of greenwashing over climate claims Judges ruled on Thursday that the energy giant had misled consumers by overstating its carbon neutrality goals. The case could set a potential precedent for corporate climate advertising.

2/ A three year battle by Fossil Free Politics member @amisdelaterre.org has seen the courts find French 🇫🇷 oil and gas major TotalEnergies guilty of greenwashing, in particular its narrative of reaching "net zero emissions by 20250".

1/ 🤔 indulge us in an exercise of logic, spread over a few posts

TL;DR? a new court ruling and a new disclosure mechanism should ban 🇫🇷 French oil & gas major ⛽ TotalEnergies from participating at COP30 in Brazil.

Gekaapt door gas: hoe de fossiele lobby de Oekraine-oorlog gebruikte Hoe gebruikte de gaslobby de oorlog in Oekraïne om het Europese energiebeleid naar hun hand te zetten?

Europe is stuck with gas again. How could that happen? And what role did the gas lobby play in it?

2️⃣ And how the Clean Industrial Deal was created during the Antwerp Summit, when the energy-intensive industry managed to push all of their demands on the EU political agenda.

📢 CSOs are currently facing an attack spearheaded by some MEPs from the EPP and far-right groups.
We urge MEPs to fight back against these attacks, in the committees and in the Plenary, and stand by the side of citizens and civil society.

Big banks admit catastrophic warming is coming—but instead of working to prevent it, they’re positioning to profit. This is how the energy transition is hijacked: public money funneled into industries that prioritize shareholder payouts (friendsoftheearth.eu/publication/...) over real solutions.

Why is the EU just about to label #hydrogen made from fossil gas as clean??⁉️

Lobby scam uncovered❗

Big polluters behind closed 🚪try to skew emissions accounting models in their favour.

[2/3] As Mirjam de Rijk highlights in @groene.nl, citing research from @somoamsterdam.bsky.social & @foeeurope.bsky.social:
💰 Companies raked in billions.
📈 Over 75% of profits went to shareholders.
🔬 Investment in their own businesses & green innovation? Barely there.

"Save" the industry? More like save us from its myths. 🏭
The story goes: industry in the Netherlands (and much of the EU) is in crisis. The supposed fix? Less regulation, more public money.

😢 But let’s dry those crocodile tears. 😢

The Clean Industrial Deal clearly prioritises corporate interests over climate action and public welfare. The notion that industry needs more capital to decarbonise is deceptive—loosening state aid rules and using public funds to ‘de-risk’ private investment will not drive the needed transition.

The same companies were lobbying tirelessly for billion-Euro subsidies to maintain their competitiveness and as contribution to their green transition.

The report makes it clear: the problem is not a lack of money, but their prioritisation of shareholder payouts over investment.

Big polluters funnel 75% of profits to shareholders, not clean energy Research shows that Europe's big polluters have handed shareholders, not clean energy, most of their profits – now they want public handouts

⚠️ Key fossil fuel facts from the report

Shell distributed 97% of their profits to shareholders, Total energies 86%, and others like Eni and BP provided payouts that exceeded their profits.
