Like much of what this government does, this reads as bullish but is entirely motivated by cowardice. They can see the sector cracking, they have not the first clue what to do, so they're preparing a narrative to absolve themselves from responsibility. Was British steel financially mismanaged?

The UK car industry contributes £22bn to the economy and employs c 35k people.

Universities contribute £265bn and employ nearly 400k, over 10x as much.

Yet he seems ok to let that sector implode.

Great afternoon at the First Folio exhibition at #OurShakespeareNorth. Harsh that John Leason's claim to fame is making some mistakes on the typesetting, which involves selecting 100s of letters half as big as a Scrabble piece and arranging them back to front along dozens of lines in exact order!
