This is partially true, but depends on the narrative that everyone would be an urban or suburban white collar or service worker if given the chance. Actual manual labor jobs and lifestyles are plentiful in rural areas. I have neighbors that work for Google, and others who cut firewood for a living.

Just to be clear, I don't live in Marin and I would burn down every gate if I were in charge. I live somewhere actually rural where resource extraction and farming happen.

I don't think you need to fully pay for you own transit, more expensive teachers and other public servants, etc., etc. That's not how society works.
