... My friend learned the truth when he was a teenager & tried to use SSN for a job. This is one of many reasons why nobody uses SSN as a primary key in a database, & why you should never allow anyone to use your SSN as an identitifier, and never even see it (limited exceptions, e.g. your employer).
SSNs have been assigned to multiple people by mistake, but it usually is cleared up eventually. I know someone with a fairly common name, and there was another person with the same first name, middle initial, and last name, born on the same day in the same city, but different hospitals. ...

Union email just came through. Acting commissioner Dudek is rumored to have requested a plan to reduce SSA staff by 50%. While this is unconfirmed, I cannot stress enough how devastating this would be for the millions of people who depend on us. This would cripple our ability to serve the public. 💔
Bears repeating that social security is incredibly INCREDIBLY efficient to run. Its overhead costs are basically zero when you consider the size of the undertaking and the genuine benefits delivered. If anyone was interested in improving govt efficiency, the SSA would be their model not their target
