XMTP: The Secure Communication Standard for the Agentic Era XMTP provides human + agent  infrastructure for the open web. This creates a trusted network for agents to communicate on, even when agents are third party.

We're working with Circle, Base, OpenWallet, MoonPay, ERC-8004, and many others to make XMTP a secure communication a standard for the agentic era.

Every agent platform solves for intelligence. Almost none solve for trust.

XMTP is the communication layer for agents on the open web:

🪪 Verified identities
📋 Permissions
👥 Humans-in-the-loop
📒 Shared state

Trusted agentic messaging.

💯 agree - it requires that we land on a standardized protocol for DM / GMs based on atproto IDs.

All the same arguments for why AT Protocol was developed apply to the communications protocol. Needs to be open source and auditable.

Closet we have to this right now is:

This isn’t just app-level messaging.

@wavemsg.app is built on a shared, secure network layer on XMTP where group chats are:

• End-to-end encrypted
• Quantum-resistant
• Privacy-preserving by design
• Interoperable with any DID on XMTP

Wave just added support for ATProto identities, becoming the first quantum-secure group chat app that connects ATProto identities with any other identity, secured by XMTP.

That means any Bluesky, Blacksky, or XMTP identity can now join fully secure, interoperable group chats.

Thank you! We are working on this. Should be done soon!

Would love your thoughts on what we put out yesterday. It gives anyone with a Bluesky ID fully encrypted, scalable group chats. Would love to know what you think.

Would love your feedback on the example app we just put out that gives anyone with a Bluesky ID fully encrypted, scalable group chats built with MLS + XMTP.

We built this as an example, but going to be working with some people from the community to extend it to all ATProto

We built XMTP to work with any open identity standard. @bsky.app + @atprotocol.dev is just the first example. Any identity system with DIDs can plug in the same way.

This is how we build truly open, interoperable communication: protocol-first, identity-agnostic, decentralized infrastructure.

We’ve been building towards this moment for the past 5 years.

• 2022 → Secure DMs
• 2024 → Scalable group chats on MLS
• Today → Scalable group chats w/ quantum-encryption for ANY DID with passkeys
• 2026/2027 → Fully decentralized infrastructure for any DID

Unlocking Quantum-Encrypted Group Chats for ATProto on XMTP Developers building with ATProto (the protocol powering Bluesky) have been asking how they can use XMTP to power messaging between users in their apps. It’s possible today to add secure messaging to any Bluesky app, and to add Bluesky identity to any messenger built on XMTP. 0:00 /0:

For @bsky.app + @atprotocol.dev devs, this means you can add secure, encrypted group messaging to your apps today.

How it works:
• Your XMTP Inbox signs approval of your DID
• Your DID's data repository stores the Inbox ID + signature

Today, @bsky.app + @atprotocol.dev devs can plug into XMTP to give users what they've been asking for: quantum-encrypted, secure group chats that scale to millions.

With our XMTPID identity model, it's finally here.
