Labour MP welcomes return of free Sure Start-style services for families in Crawley Families in Crawley will soon be able to benefit from free community sessions—ranging from playgroups to infant development classes—provided at local children and family centres to help support child development and ease the financial pressure on households. As part of the goal of reversing cuts to the last Labour Government’s much-celebrated Sure Start programme, children and family centres in Bewbush and Broadfield are being redesignated as ‘Best Start Family Hubs’, able to provide a broader range of support services for local families.

Single Biggest Improvement In Rental Conditions Ever, Crawley Observer Column, Wednesday 15th April 2026 Shelter is one of the most basic human needs. For all the incredible improvements economic growth and technological development have delivered over the last half century, the declining availability and increasing cost of housing has been the most significant constraint on people’s quality of life. The sale of council housing enabled more people to access home ownership for the first time, but the scale of the discount and restrictions Conservatives put on councils building new units meant the UK’s social housing stock has never recovered.

Peter Lamb Urges Crawley Parents, Schools and Caterers to have their say on new School Standards Peter Lamb, Labour MP for Crawley has welcomed the government’s plans to update the School Food Standards for the first time in over a decade and urged local people to contribute to the consultation. The move comes after parent polling revealed three quarters are concerned by the food their children are eating, while one in three children are leaving primary school overweight or obese.

A graphic reading: Nominate Cat Arnold, L1452611. As an NEC member of two years, I’ve celebrated our wins, but challenged too.
My views have been grounded in good governance, democracy, and Labour Party values. Values of social and environmental justice, equity, and transparency. I will continue to uphold members’ views, representing them effectively, alongside my Mainstream colleagues.

Peter Lamb MP backs Labour change to protect Crawley’s graduates from interest rate shocks Peter Lamb, MP for Crawley, has come out in support of a key change Labour has made to the student loan system to deliver stability and protections for graduates from escalating interest. The Labour government has placed a cap on the maximum interest rates on Plan 2 and 3 student loans at 6% from 1 September, for the 2026/27 academic year.

Only Labour is committed to your rights at work, Crawley Observer Column, Wednesday 8th April 2026 People are feeling the pinch, they’ve been feeling it for a long time and I’ve written before about what is being done to generate economic growth, and the challenges. Unfortunately, America’s chaotic war with Iran, supported by Reform and the Conservatives, has made these challenges far worse. The Government is working to tackle the impact of this war at home and secure the re-opening of the Strait of Hormuz, while working to end UK oil dependency—our national defence weak point—and pushing ahead with its plan for growth.

Addressing Leasehold and Fleecehold, Crawley Observer Column, Wednesday 1st April 2026 I spent last weekend in Forge Wood, speaking with residents about the issues which matter to them. As with every other part of Crawley, you get a real mish mash of topics: highways issues, policing matters, and challenges accessing local services. Yet, in Forge Wood, one issue comes up most of all and that is the issue of fleecehold. Fleecehold or ‘unadopted estates’ are a relatively recent, but fast-growing problem where developers bring forward new housing, but instead of transferring the infrastructure over to the public sector they cut costs and set up a new company to administer them.

Great speaking with residents in Forge Wood this weekend.

Lots of issues attached to the estate being unadopted. This is something I am working with ministers and Crawley council to address.

Other issues I will be taking up with WSCC, Highways England and the police directly.
