Tourists have been warned not to treat Highland cows as 'selfie props' amid a growing trend
Animal welfare organisations have seen people put themselves in harm's way to get pictures - with some even sitting on the cows

📉 "Defining these animals as endangered is a stark reminder of how quickly Antarctica is changing before our eyes. Without a rapid reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and sustained conservation action, these species may be lost forever."

A less than regular visitor came by this afternoon, a male Costa’s hummingbird with that amazing purple gorget! Also some nice squeaks and wing hums.

My neighbor just across the road has about 15 spring lambs and I am dying from cuteness overload!

Hope you don’t have too many denticles!
A photo of a sign next to a pond and wildflowers, with trees in the background, saying: Developers see 'unused land'. Wildlife sees the last place to stay alive.
Yes, human use is not the only use - and all uses are interdependent.
Good example of how to migrate your massive community off that gross website: tell that community your reasons for leaving and where they can find you elsewhere.
They will come wherever you rebuild if they are true supporters.
Focus here is on metrics being bad. Ethical issues equally justified.
Beautiful painterly effect!
An embroidery hoop containing a sewn aerial view landscape. It depicts an apple orchard in bloom in the centre, allotments to the left and sheep in their field at the bottom. Train tracks go past the top of the orchard and allotment.
Sewn train tracks past an apple orchard (to the left).
An angled view of a sewn vegetable allotment surrounded by rough land, trees and with train tracks to the left.
An angled view of embroidered bushes and paths going through them leading to an orchard, allotment and fields.
'A simple (perfect) life' - my spring landscape is finally finished! An apple orchard in bloom, old railway, sheep with their lambs and an allotment being prepared for growing :) Zoom in to see all the other tiny details too... I think this might be my favourite aerial embroidery I've ever done!
Wowser, Mr Flashy aka Mr Allen’s hummingbird made a late afternoon visit to the #BirdBuddy feedercam. That iridescent gorget 👀
And we get a few nice chirps as well 🥰

This is a Celtic electrum coin minted in England depicting a horse that’s over 2000 years old.
Brilliant as another potential line of evidence. I just feel that the site (and available current technology) is ripe for a thorough scientific reexamination.
Geofiz?
I expect @sdetectorist.bsky.social could add more about Celtic coin depictions.
Simply conjecture on my part, and i know nothing, but i would expect geophys could provide some (even negative) results?

Criminally amateurish red marker overlaying the Uffington White Horse so that it now has 4 proportional legs, a body and a full head (plus the “old” small head now looks like an eye!)
So contours and (now rubbed-out) chalk possibly like this originally in shape.
The Uffington White Horse with theorized original muzzle.
I also think the disproportionately small-sized head could have originally been more extensive (also rendering the current apparent whiskers as, instead, the second ear and eyelashes?
But i wish there were a way to validate it (à la Dr. Stewart Ainsworth from Time Team).
Sorta like this
Seeing the “natural”contours of the landscape, the legs could well have looked longer (depending on the light and direction of view as one approached from the West.
An older aerial view of the Uffington White Horse in black and white.
Then, in searching for studies, i came across this picture.
Thanks. I like to think of it as originally either a waymarker or tribal boundary-marker related to the hillfort above. But the current shape bugs me, because contemporary depictions of horses on, e.g., Celtic coins, were better, at least in the shape of the head and with full-length legs.
The Uffington White Horse looking clean and resplendent
Has there ever been an archaeological examination of its “original” shape (assuming the configuration has changed over time to the current one)? I haven’t been able to find anything.
Maybe impossible due to ethereal nature of carving/chalking?
Please don't buy this filthy stuff..
