the U.S. Forest Service and the arrogance of trying to kill something like a forest: defector.com/the-trump-ad...
I simply think that no American President and in fact no human being at all should ever have the capacity to destroy civilization and it is sheer madness that we exist in a world where this is possible even when that isn’t foremost in our minds and headlines
“I think those of us who care about the future of the human race—and want equality of human life and want people to be able to live in a just manner and take care of their families—we want it for all people.” — ta-nehisi coates in a new interview
everything we are seeing now is the consequence of having a political environment in which indifference to the deaths and suffering of other people - even by the state whose supposed responsibility is to safeguard their welfare - is a superpower rather than a political liability
Sharing meals anchors incarcerated people both to our lives outside the prison walls and to each other in one of the most toxic environments anywhere.
“Fascism is constantly and deliberately shrinking the definition of who is considered a person. Art, especially art made by and for marginalized populations, does the opposite. It expands and complicates our understanding of the human condition.”

❗️Statement by Hamas:
"The Knesset’s final approval of the so-called ‘law to execute Palestinian prisoners’ reflects the bloody nature of the occupation and its approach based on killing and terrorism, exposing the falsity of its repeated claims of civility and commitment to humanitarian values.
As Cuba struggles with blackouts and other hardships, the U.S. military base at Guantánamo Bay exists in a bubble of self reliance supported by shipments from the USA.

Parents in the South are organizing to support their trans kids. And it turns out, the vast majority of parents with trans kids support them, contrary to the myth that it's so very hard to do. May these courageous families set an example for all. @translash.org translash.org/wire/parents...

Hi, I am a constituent in [borough]. I voted for you partially because of your promise to dedicate 0.5% of the budget to the public library. Please keep your campaign promises.

Incredibly illuminating to compare income and hours worked across countries and states for ***the bottom 95% of earners only***. The typical Belgian earns as much as the typical Californian but works about 24% less

Trump’s “Operation Metro Surge” was a militarized campaign of fear that treated immigrants as criminals and weaponized the federal government against U.S. citizens.
We need independent investigations, real accountability, and to abolish ICE.
My op-ed:
"We are wrong because we started the war" should be the anchor point for all coverage of what's happening and it's remarkable how quickly that tends to get obscured.

the war is not "aimless." It is corrupt, unjust and immoral.
ok
In America’s most famous Haitian community, everyone is now forced to just hunker down and wait for the Supreme Court to say when it is okay to come and try to deport them.

Let Black history month serve to remind us that the living legacy of slavery is the carceral state- policing, prison, immigration detention, and border enforcement. Abolition now.
We're all we've got. Best to spend time figuring out how to live into this truth.
In the wake of the horrific ICE killings in Minnesota, many prominent Democrats have called for ICE to wear body cameras. Yesterday, @equalityalec.bsky.social talked to @democracynow.org about how important it is that we don't get distracted by meaningless & counterproductive reforms.
It's been really lovely reading all the tributes to Dan. Many people have asked if they can contribute to support his wife and son. You can do so here: everloved.com/life-of/dan-...
Alec Karakatsanis @equalityalec.bsky.social has
the definitive takedown of body cameras. This isn't about cameras "failing." It's about expanding surveillance, mitigating police brutality lawsuits, and profits for the companies that make them.

Saying there must be trials isn't just an emotive aspiration.
Congress can:
- Create a new court (complying w/ 6A jury vicinage)
- Give it jurisdiction over defined category of crimes
- Also create dedicated prosecutors for the same
- Strip SCOTUS of appellate jurisdiction
It can be done.
The whole interview is worth it
