How every layer of science's "self-correcting machinery" failed when Iva Veseli and I simply wanted to reproduce the findings of a high-profile study on gut microbiome and autism:

Looks like a lace doily from a grandmother’s end table.
Help out if you can! We need to raise at least $2000 just to have the program this year. Shirts and mixer will be more but I’m just focusing on travel expenses for the time being.
Pls share: Ursinus College is looking for an adjunct lecturer to teach Microbiology this fall. You can see all the details at: iaotqy.fa.ocs.oraclecloud.com/hcmUI/Candid...
Hilarious!!!
Gather, my friends, and you shall learn the esoteric history of fridge magnets, and how they function as tacky little references for human memory:
Sounds amazing!!! 🪸🐠I’ll be at Skidaway the last weekend in April but sounds like I’ll miss you.

Hey y’all. As many of you know I’ve had a tough few months. I’m just now getting a *little* bit of bandwidth to work on #BinningSingletons and I need some help to get to #ASMicrobe this year. #MicroSky 🦠🧪
I know the tweet is Al generated when they use " ," before and.
“I will NOT sacrifice the Oxford comma. We've made too many compromises already; too many retreats. They assimilate the em dash and we fall back. They capture ‘not just X but y’ and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further!”
I will say this again: Science isn’t just something that nerds do, it’s the foundation of the modern world.
It’s why this app exists. It’s why child mortality rate isn’t 50% anymore. It’s how we’re able to launch people to the moon. It’s how we’re able to grow food that feeds half the world.
This! Literally. Reposts of my art (which are free!) REALLY bloody help, lads! Thank you for all that do! Xxx

We propose you a very special egg hunt: an underwater one! 🔎 🥚 🌊
A closer look at marine life shows the fascinating diversity of eggs that mark the very first stages of ocean life.
"If you start thinking about the world you want to create to serve your own good, the good of your community, and of your children...instead about how you can secure safety, comfort, and status in the world the tech companies have built...they will lose all their power."

Puritan swabs, by way of Fisher Scientific, Thomas Scientific, etc.
Polyester tips are better than cotton (you can get cotton DNA in extractions).
Craig was a big guy and his shirt absorbed most of the water as it came in the hatch, so none of the electronics were affected by the leak. The o-ring was replaced in about 20 min, we got back in and completed the dive as planned. 2/2
I will never forget the dive where Craig & I were in the JSL sphere and about 10ft below the surface, the hatch started leaking like a garden hose on low. He calmly blew the ballast, we popped up and were retrieved by the ship. Inspection revealed hatch o-ring had microfractures. 1/2
Photo of 22lb “Larry the Lobster” mounted on a stone with a bronze plaque, with a framed photo between its claws of Craig Caddigan holding the lobster the day it was caught using the Johnson Sea Link submersible.
Filed under “life well lived” - yesterday I was honored to attend a memorial for Craig Caddigan, who I knew as a submersible pilot of the Johnson Sea Link, and learned he also loved shell collecting, artwork, driving a gorgeous red Corvette, & volunteering at the Elliott Museum in Stuart,FL
A short, stubby, beehive-shaped shell on a piece of white paper. There are eight whorls visible, with raised ridges running perpendicular to each whorl (vertically up the shell). It’s a pale beige, with darker valleys in between the ridges. The lip of the aperture is thin, indicating it’s a juvenile Cerion whateveritis
I snagged this shell at the estate sale I went to last week. It was unlabeled - I’m pretty sure it’s a Cerion spp., but they’re endemic to the Caribbean and the distribution is hyperspecific, with many species found on only one or two islands.
Any Cerion experts that can tell me which one this is?
I remember when everything started moving to apps and I was morally offended at the idea of having to download all these little programs to access services when the Internet was right there and you know what, I was right

Folks, more good news!
Our latest paper on oyster microbiomes out in @pnas.org. Led by the inestimable Dr. Andrea Unzueta-Martinez and with great support from the Wang lab @whoi.edu we explore the how a persistent community of microbes in calcifying fluid could shape shell deposition.
Enjoy!
