@rukis.bsky.social is one of the best writers in furry. Not a cis-dude. The romantic relationships are mostly male/male, but the main line stories are not mostly about sex. (There is some, explicit, on screen.) Black powder weapons and sailing ships in a world that's an allegory of our history.

There are some authors who are brilliant at it. @rukis.bsky.social, for example, can turn a block of navel gazing into a galaxy of captivating character insight. I'm a sucker for a good train of thought.

Jag är ett stort fan av den här författaren, jag har läst nästan alla hans böcker vid det här laget, och det här är min favorit. HeartThefts huvudperson är en ung Akita vid namn Isidor, en djupt religös tempelriddare. Han vill jobba på inkvisitionen då han känner att det är hans kall. Han får sin chans när han lyckas spåra en ökänd och mystisk mästertjuv som stulit en viktig religös artifakt och mördat två tempelriddare. Men efter att ha blivit ihopparad med en erfaren inkvisitionsriddare som mentor börjar han inse att det finns aspekter av inkvisitionsarbetet som han kanske inte är så väl anpassad till. Och efter hans första kontakt med tjuven så har han svårt att tänka sig hen som mördare. Till råga på allt så ju mer han lär sig om inkvisitionen och mästertjuven ju djupare sjunker han ner i en religös kris. Rukis har skapat en rik och unik post-senmedeltida värld som man får se från många olika perspektiv i hennes olika böcker. Alla har queera karaktärer, romantik och äventyr och har starka teman om medkänsla och empati. Hennes karaktärer är djupa och mångdimensionellla. Den här boken är min favorit (både bok 1 och 2), kanske mycket på grund av den romantiska delen med en ickebinär karaktär då jag själv är ickebinär. Men alla hennes böcker är starka berättelser som skär på hjärtsträngarna och öppnar sinnet. En varning, Rukis är även en väldigt skicklig konstnär (hen målar omslagen på sina böcker själv) och boken innehåller illustrationer, varav några skildrar lite mer, kryddiga, scener. (Författaren är genderfluid och variationen av pronomen är inget misstag.)
