One porto in, and all of a sudden, I’m fluent in Portuguese (allegedly)
I love this. It hurts me to be this villain unfortunately, so I need to lean into it more!
I honestly feel ridiculous trying to speak a language I’ve barely studied, but it’s kinda crazy to hear and feel Portuguese coming out of my mouth.
It was going well until she asked me if I could understand Portuguese well before she was gonna give me a bunch of information, and I just couldn’t lie. We ended up switching to Spanish.
In Porto now, right outside my accommodation, trying to hype myself up for my first Portuguese conversation. Here goes nothing…

At a Chinese restaurant in Madrid right now, and although it was already established from the start that I was Filipino and did not speak Chinese, the owner seems to keep forgetting and keeps on speaking to me in Chinese anyway.
Going for the first time to Portugal next month, and so I’m finally gonna take on some Portuguese. Let’s see how far I get in a month knowing Spanish.

Code-switched to corporatese at a meeting this morning, and I’m torn between feeling proud of myself and vomiting my brains out.
Spanish really said “Y’all on your own” when it dropped all the conjugations for ser and ir.
I always like to think that at some point, I must have had Malay-speaking Tagalog ancestors that were disappointed that their kids weren't learning Malay anymore, which at the time was considered a prestigious language.
