"Cutting aid will not defend the UKβs interests but rather will make the world a less safe place."
"The UK must restore the aid budget, and use its G20 Presidency to find solutions that bridge the gap between the huge need for aid and available resources - such as reforming the system that bleeds Africa dry in unfair debt repayments.
"These cuts risk undoing progress in the global effort to tackle extreme poverty. It will be the lowest amount of spending for overseas aid since records began in 1970.
Lorraine Currie, SCIAF CEO said "SCIAF is deeply disappointed to see that the UK Government is proceeding with devastating aid cuts over the next 2 years that will hit Africa hard with a 56% cut. These are the steepest aid cuts by any country in the G7. Make no mistake, these cuts will cost lives.
π¨ Today the UK Government has set out further details of its aid budget cuts, the bilateral aid to Africa will be cut by almost Β£900 million by 2028 as part of devastating changes to Britainβs international aid spending.
