I love when they unfold like that! I find most days are not so cooperative, but I'm also happy that I'm not finding any bears in Toronto, so...

this was all from one day?!
it’s possible to just eat one?
nice one! i always startle them on the ground, and they're gone, never a chance for a good shot
looks amazing!
a photograph taken by thomas boldt in algonquin park on sept 1, 2020. it depicts a rocky island dotted with coniferous trees in the middle of a calm lake. thick fog blocks the sky and forest on the other side of the lake, creating a dreamy, surreal atmosphere.
a quiet day on the lake, drifting in the fog
so peaceful... it makes it easy to forget that it was freezing at the time!

Right?!
Thanks! I will never tell how many failed attempts there were first 😅
a photograph of a golden-crowned kinglet taken by thomas boldt on march 27, 2026. the bird is hanging upside from a branch, with its wings fully extended, about to take flight. the bird's head is turned to the left, and the gold and red feathers in on its head are catching the sunlight.
perfectly normal bird stuff, part 4
This tiny Golden-crowned kinglet also fits the #BlackHead theme for #BirdoftheDay (barely). I love watching them dart through the old undergrowth in early Spring, but they're usually too acrobatic for a good shot!

a photograph of an american mink sitting in some dried undergrowth from the previous year. it's staring directly at the camera.
bright-eyed and bushy-tailed this morning, bluesky?

Thanks! I managed to get a bunch of great shots while it devoured some unidentifiable prey, calling very loudly the whole time. seemed like unusual behaviour, but it made for a great sequence!
A photograph of a black-capped chickadee frozen in mid-flight with a bright red sumac berry in its beak. The bird's wings are captured fully extended on the downbeat of its wing stroke as it eyes the camera. a large red sumac cluster is visible on the right edge of the frame.
Sumac is a great source of bird #snacks during the lean winter months, and I love how the bright red really pops against this Black-capped chickadee caught in mid-flight for #birdoftheday

a closeup photograph of a white-tailed deer as it drinks from the edge of a small lake. the photograph is straight-on, showcasing the deer's surprisingly thick eyelashes as it looks directly at the camera.
these deer are a little too friendly for their own good in the middle of #Toronto, even though they're always safe with me.

Thanks! It’s just always hard to choose ‘best’ things, I like them all!
a photograph of a cooper's hawk perched on a rotting birch stump. the bird's feathers are fluffed giving it an unusual appearance. it is staring directly at the camera, and has a small amount of food around its beak. it looks decidedly ruffled. march 25, 2026.
me: but how can you be angry when you have such fancy pants
hawk: I SAID GOOD DAY, SIR
not sure if this is my #bestofthemonth for #birdoftheday, but I haven't been posting, so we'll go with it
