For everyone that thinks the Mayor of San Jose, Matt Mahan, would be a YIMBY governor, this is from his official mayor website bragging about opposing the elimination of single family zoning.

It is mindboggling that, in the face of climate change, increasing traffic, gas prices, and *everything else*, the California legislature's highest transpo priority this session is limiting the use of e-bikes.

Genuinely a real possibility of the CA e-bike industry being regulated out of existence.

Seems like the move for this is to start with bus lanes and make the corridor more transit oriented to justify the investment.

From Westwood to Santa Monica is already quite nice since you can use both Blue Bus 1 and 4 interchangeably and don't need to track real time arrivals.

That and there's a grand conspiracy across the FBI and every locality to cook the crime stats books.

I think it's fine to say generically that "all things being blown up has downsides" but I don't think data centers are any more or less virtuous then, say, oil rigs or hotels. "Oracle is reaping what it sowed" seems like a fine sentiment here.

(that's not the point of OP's boring luddite take tho)

If fare reduction were actually up against expanded service, I'd choose expanded service every time, but I don't think it usually is a trade like that.

Sure, but that's different from saying that they don't want free fare or that free fare advocates are phonys.

You're making a political argument "we can't get funding for transit via taxes" not a merit argument "fares are better for transit than taxes".

Worcester-area residents back fare-free buses — MassINC Polling Group 70% want to see the program extended for a 5th year; riders say they will ride less if fares return Topline Crosstabs As the Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) weighs the future of fa...

The only poll I fount that broke support down by transit use has a higher rate of support for fare free among active riders.

Note that most people on both sides in this poll are not bus riders because in most of the US relatively few people use the bus.

People are overwhelming drivers, so it makes sense that a majority of people on all sides of the issue are too. That's just the base rate.

I got pulled over turning right on Delaware off Cloverfield recently. Annoyingly it was the first time I tried that move now that I have daycare drop-off in the neighborhood, but I appreciate the enforcement. Got off with a warning since I had a local destination and wasn't cutting through.

Treating it as a junior coworker isn't a terrible analogy. The big difference, as you mention, is that the skills or errors are very different from a junior coworker. We all have tons of experience with dealing with junior humans, and it takes time to figure out the AI ones (and still changing fast)
