Leave to election science geeks to fill an 8:00 am panel. I co-organized the Election Science Conference-within-a-Conference at #SPSA2026 with @Joshua Ferrer this year. Nice to get it kicked off! #electiongeeks

We’re in the middle of an authoritarian takeover and the one political scientist the press is listening to is Robert Fucking Putnam?
Just text them. I’m sure they’ll appreciate that.
The job market seems to be getting a little too full of qualified people these last few months.
Those are pretty big CIs
The FEC is named specifically:
Agency,” unless otherwise indicated, means any authority of the United States that is an “agency” under 44 U.S.C. 3502(1), and shall also include the Federal Election Commission.

2025 has been awful in every way. I have to assume they don’t work in government or retail or education.
Few things irritate me more than someone asking for time on your agenda so they can get stakeholder feedback only to find out they didn’t actually want feedback, they just wanted to check a box.

Thanks for having me!
Big thanks to @poliscigrl.bsky.social for visiting my class and giving an incredible talk on election administration and skepticism!
My original point: The only way for the president to enforce impoundment against a determined Congress that fights back is by going further and spending unappropriated funds. And at that point he would be full Roman emperor "the Senate is just ceremonial."

I really dislike Zoom, but at least we get to watch awesome @uclalaw panels on election law. #electionnerd
As of today, the Dallas Cowboys have longest NFC Championship drought in the NFL, at 30 years. And you see the funny thing about that is literally everything.
And SpeechNow v. FEC allowed the Super PACs.
It’s awful - but it wasn’t actually CU that allowed this. Unlimited individual spending on campaigns was the result of Buckley v Valeo.
It’s been a rough start to 2025, so it could be appropriate.
My husband and I have a long running joke that a party isn’t a party until the Shins come on. (Obviously, someone unfamiliar with their music wouldn’t get the joke.)
Some reason being planning a “rally”.
I didn’t see it that way. I took it as an encouragement to young directors to stay their ground and push back against the money men.
