JAPANESE GOTHIC by Kylie Lee Baker – Review
The nitty-gritty: A mind-bending, bloody mystery, Japanese Gothic blends time travel and folklore into an emotional and heartbreaking story. Japanese Gothic is one of the most unique stories I’ve read in a long time, and Kylie Lee Baker has become a new…
Haha, ok wow. It's nice to know I'm in great company!
Obligatory "check out my bandcamp"
I write queer Aussie idiot plot - that quintessential mode of being Australian.
I have a crowdfunding campaign for the first 3 books going live in May.
Chuck it a follow to be notified if ya like

Yes! *considers my character* - he isn’t quite that awful, but he IS petty and that can be worse?
Right? The minute I head canoned him as Tim Roth I was done for!
A pink background decorated with rainbows and dashed lines in the colors of the lesbian pride flag. The text reads, “Lesbian Visibility Week Bundle; 94 sapphic & lesbian books for $40 USD; 4/20 - 4/26; exclusively on Itch.io”
Hey friends! Tomorrow there's a big Lesbian Visibility Week bundle kicking off on Itch, and Magica Riot and Magica Riot: Full Bloom are part of the party! There are 94 works by incredible creators in here, and you can get 'em all for $40! itch.io/b/3635/lesbi...
This guy is the worst 🤣😎. He is a fidgety, corporate shark jackass that constantly has to keep everyone around him off balance. BUT…but…it is so much fun to write him. My main problem in pitching his book is that he doesn’t want to be redeemed!
…looks like Tim Roth in my head, though. Sooooo…
I don’t know. It is fun to write a jackass sometimes! I am trying to sell my editor on a stand-alone redemption book for the antagonist in my last book. He is scrubby little hallion with no redeeming features but he’s SO MUCH FUN.
(My editor insists everyone will hate him too much. Also a win :))
I know not to try and be sarcastic on Reddit. It never ends well. Yet sometimes I just can't help myself. I find writing /s vaguely deflating, so instead I propose spearheading the ⸮ into common usage. The irony mark is the Lady Danbury of punctuation. We need it! Now more than ever.

Still one of my favorite pieces

In fairness, I warned them off the place with bad squid sushi. And that is the sort of thing a friend would do!
I always say I’m too lazy for parasocial relationships. Except there is an author I had dinner with ONCE, along with a couple of other readers, years ago and I think ‘oh, hey friend!’. So I’m not too lazy for parasocial relationships, I just don’t put any effort into my parasocial relationships?
I am always tempted to use 'In a publishing first!' when I post about a new book/a re-cover/anything I do. OK, people have published books before but THIS is the first time that I have published THIS BOOK. That's three publishing firsts for the price of one!

Me, an intellectual, talking about themes and analogies and diegesis: And that, of course, is what drives me to try and bring my vision of this story to the world.
Also me, writing the grumpy one hate-loving the sunshine one's stupid, beautiful, dumb smile: hehehehehe...and then they gonna kiss.
Character: Help! Help! I'm being oppressed!
Me, stuffing them back into a van: Ignore them. They're fine. Everyone's fine. Everything's fine. They bring these things on themselves!
Flat illustration of three American Woodcocks teaming up to tug a very long earthworm out of the ground
I must finish my current series before starting any new ones! I have made promises! People know where to find me! :) (maybe one little new one, for a treat…)
Unpopular opinion: I should give more side characters in my books their own stories. (Popular opinion, actually. At least according to readers!)
Readers complain about kept on the edge with a slow burn romance in a series, but think of the authors! We LIVE with these lovelorn idiots!
"What was better, the book or the..." It's the book. It's always the book. Until the day someone gives me an MCU budget and free rein with the script/casting? It's ALWAYS going to be the book.
I will give EXTRA POINTS if it is actually not a fantasy at all. Not even magic realism. Fluffy contemporary or bust.
I will ACCEPT an actual fly by from a dragon that has no impact on the narrative AT ALL. It might as well be a seagull.
You know those covers where there is just a dragon doing a fly by on the cover? No hate, btw! But every time I see one I always think how funny it would be if there was NO dragon. You read the whole book, get to the end are then - in gentle bewilderment - check the cover for the dragon cos…
You know those classy, old school maps that you see in fantasy books? The topographic ones? My version of those is a tourist maps of the seediest places in the towns my books are set in.
I would never read the last page first...but I imagine those who do would be absolutely confuzzled when they jumped back to page 1. Like, how do they get to Z from here? This isn't even a letter! :D
The bad guy in my current WIP is a problem. He gets all the good snark by virtue of being a jackass...the good guys are just not mean spirited enough! #writerlife #badguy #writing
It's time to queer your bookshelf and I will not be taking questions. Hundreds - HUNDREDS - of LGBT+ books across every genre known to mankind. Is that hyperbole? Maybe. Is it ninety-nine cents? 100% Don't say I never did anything for you! #mmromance #lgbtbooks buff.ly/CLEk2Ty
