Decide to bite the bullet & invest in some new hardware to replace the laptop that's been buzzing away nicely recently.

Happy to have been able to dump windows straight away and head to Linux. Giving cachyOS a go on this one.

Trivia quiz question: "What programming language named after 70s British comedy show? Begins with P." I know nothing about 70s TV and could only answer "Porridge."

France Kicks Windows to the Curb, Pivots to Linux OS Now, France has announced it’s moving some of its government systems away from Windows towards the open-source operating system Linux, following Denmark and parts of Germany announcing similar departures from Microsoft products earlier this year.

David Amiel, France’s Minister of Public Action and Accounts, said his country must 'break free' and 'become less reliant on American tools.'

2nd from Klarer.

Again, a decent performance but this time finding the net and not giving away stupid goals.

So frustrating that we decided to stop scoring/gift opponents free goals several weeks back!

And yet again I've sat here and seen us play ok, I'd even say good but we just can't do it in front of goal. 😐

The ‘Money Launderers Dream’: Who Is Really Bankrolling Nigel Farage? Why are crypto billionaires, tax-avoiding media organisations and the employees of foreign oligarchs really putting their money into Reform UK?

Among Reform UK’s biggest donors is the Crypto billionaire Ben Delo, who was handed a fawning spread in the Telegraph this week to explain why he is giving £4m to the party.

What is buried in the piece that Delo is a convicted criminal who pled guilty to violating money laundering law in the US

Hahahaha. Love how you use USian bs talking points.

Tell me where the naughty leftwing curriculum hurt you?

Tell you what, if you can pinpoint the leftwing bias in the national curriculum or anything from the exam boards for "computing" and "computer science" you can have my salary for a year.

Awww look at you using words you don't understand. You'd be swimming in participation trophies if you believed in them!

Sure if English isn't your first language.

I would prefer we stop making software and hardware for idiots.

But the classroom still needs that teacher that knows the Ss in front of them. Knows the subject, understands the curriculum and exam board requirements.

The thing is, having reliable computer assisted marking is doable. Having something to assist with the regular classroom admin also is possible. It doesn't require the use of a handful of US corps who are just stealing data, taking money and using customers as test subjects.

There is no AI product out there that could replace a classroom teacher now. I'd bet anything on that.

Nothing out there could respond to the wide range of needs within a single classroom. None will have been trained on the correct data to cope with the situations that arise.

Having a computer mark work is not new.

Having a computer mark work and give feedback based off unverified shite it's scrapped from the web is not the great product they pretend it is.

Tired of seeing how AI is supposed to be changing things, fixing things, improving things.

In many of the cases of the new or improved products appearing with some AI element they're not new. They're replacing existing systems, and people. replacing safeguards. Replacing quality for quantity

Which do the Ss read more? Their once, twice or at most 3 times a year report. Often coming AFTER the work is done. Or their classbooks? Moodle profile? Other place they stick their work?

1 week ago 0 0 0 0

The fact that there I know of several who would go apeshit if they thought you'd used a comment bank. I know of some that wouldn't accept report comments that were too similar.

If you think "depersonalising" will help the Ss, where the fuck have you been? Where the hell have you been working? Have you ever worked with humans before?

Now, I would love to hear that head and all others thoughts on using AI to write reports.

Before anyone cries "but depersonalisation in exam marking is what is needed" or whatever, I'd simply say "no shit!".
But this is mock exams. It will be end of topic work, it will become every single piece of work completed.

I read this article and it just raised so many questions. I also know you shouldn't be quick to judge but, fuck me am I judging.

I'd say that I can't imagine working at a school where a HT talks about 'depersonalisation' so much. But that just isn't true. And it's depressing.

Have another idea for something to 'write up'. Don't know what I'd do with it, where i'd put it or why. I guess part of the 'why' is my own MH, get some of these thoughts out of my head. But then theres the part of me telling me its pointless (for so many reasons!) & it's not going to pay the bills

1 week ago 0 0 0 0

I'm not sure if I can or cannot believe what I've read. There were several things the HT said that I just can't get my head around and I've so many questions I wish I could ask!

But mainly I was confused that it seems that they felt cold, sterile, depersonalised commentary would help Ss improve.

Really regretting coming on here today. My brain was already whizzing. Reading some stuff here and gone into hyperdrive. Trying to avoid getting sucking into focussing on the things that's least useful (though could be interesting).

Should just go and nap instead.

Lack of soul and heart.

Plus, like you said, it's read a lot of utter pap online that it uses as a base.

Can I suggest that from October everyone stop supporting Microsoft 365.

Find the uninstall button. Remove everything.

There are better applications out there, especially for use in education.
