Families art build and rally for peace, 5 pm tonight in grand army plaza bk
Wake up everyone. We cannot be silent while the president of the United States threatens to destroy an entire country. What will you tell your kids you did in this moment?
Republicans are making the unpaid, trained professionals at TSA work alongside overpaid, untrained goons at ICE. Apparently, it's not going well...
Adding insult to injury is a loser move. Americans are suffering now, but Republicans will pay the costs in November.
#ICEout #FundTSA
Now is the time for every NYer who opposes collusion with ICE's mass deportation schemes to be as loud as possible in demanding that our NYS electeds pass #NY4All.
Strong day for @schumer.senate.gov:
1. Kept every Senate Dem united against the Trump-Rep DHS "deal"
2. Called out Trump's illegal war for exacerbating the MAGA affordability crisis
3. Delivered a powerful rebuke of the SAVE Act, which not a single Senate Dem will ever vote for
#HoldTheLine, Chuck!
Ever wonder how all of the amazing art at the No Kings marches gets [hand] made? Let’s follow this flower on its creation journey to No Kings 3 in NYC on 3/28!!

But should I live to see that day, I'll add to Habermas: "Canst work i’ th’ earth so fast? A worthy pioner!" (4/4)
And should democratic practice ever grow strong enough in itself so as to break through into the sunlight, the whole world will leap from its seat and exult, "Well burrowed, old mole!" (3/4)
These days, I'm mostly learning from the millions of everyday people joining the movement for democracy. We're working methodically through these dark times to generate solidarity and the capacity for people-powered politics. (2/4)
"These statements are formulated in the hypothetical subjunctive. For today, the solidarity-generating source of democratic practice is already drying up in our various countries. With few exceptions, the political elites are letting themselves be disarmed by an ideologically inflated social complexity and have lost the courage to pursue a transformative policy. Meanwhile, the national public spheres, which are parched of almost all really relevant issues, have turned into arenas of distraction and indifference, if not of reciprocally fuelled nationalist resentment. If we are not content with gloomy diagnoses, we can learn something important from a Kant enlightened by Marx: the mole of reason is blind only in the sense that it recognizes the resistance of an unsolved problem without knowing whether there will be a solution. At the same time, it continues to tunnel forward obdurately in its subterranean passages. Kant inculcated this mentality in us along with his insights—indeed, his philosophy consists in collecting good reasons for this mentality of encouraging hope even in the face of disaster. And is not that the crowning glory of his wonderfully illuminating philosophy?" Jürgen Habermas, "Once again: On the relationship between morality and ethical life." Lecture delivered at Goethe University Frankfurt, June 19, 2019. Translated by Ciaran Cronin. Full text here: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/ejop.12716
At a public lecture celebrating his 90th birthday, Jürgen Habermas concluded his remarks like this: (1/4)
There is power in our union! Solidarity forever.

Union busting is unholy!
@bradlander.bsky.social agrees that faculty unions belong at Catholic universities.
Shame on Father Shanley for misusing Vincentian values to justify withdrawing recognition of faculty unions at St. John’s University!
The REAL March Madness is that Father Shanley at St. John’s University is withdrawing recognition of faculty unions. SJU AAUP and allies are here at Madison Square Garden today to say NO to this disgusting union busting!

So we call upon the City Council to pass the NYC Know Your Rights Act, pass the NYC Trust Act, and do everything you can to support and strengthen our sanctuary laws, which make our city safer for all of us. 3/3

Sanctuary protections are central to NYC's promise to care for everyone who calls this city home. But we can do a better job of keeping our promise. 1/3

Our rights are under attack from all directions. But the people, united, will never be defeated.
I'm proud to be fighting for workers' rights and a democracy that delivers for working people. And with fighters like @bradlander.bsky.social by our side, I believe that we will win. #HandsOffSJUfaculty
St. John's University's president says that he can't bear the burden of dealing with unions, so he's not going to recognize our unions anymore. We've been a unionized faculty since 1970.
On Wed 2/25, we're rallying to say Hands Off St. John's Faculty. Join us! bit.ly/HandsOffSJU225
@aaup.org
It's a performative question and answer. Surely they haven't forgotten that Trump has ALREADY tried to do this by Executive Order just last year. He failed. That's why they're trying again to ram it through Congress.

MAGA tried writing ICE a blank check. And Senate Dems united to vote it down.
Thank you, @schumer.senate.gov, for holding the line. Not another nickel or dime for the secret police terrorizing our communities and kidnapping and murdering our neighbors. No more funding for ICE crimes.
Thank you, @indivisible.org!
With fascism ascendent, in a country that working families can’t afford, we need to fight like hell for a more inclusive democracy and a more equal economy.
Together, we’ll keep organizing for the country that we deserve.
Here's one example: SCOTUS has reinterpreted the Constitution to allow racial profiling. This list would change the law to ban such Kavanaugh stops. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kavanau...
Excerpt from Politico article, "Democrats plan DHS funding offer as Thune floats long-term punt" by Mia McCarthy and Jordain Carney. February 4, 2026. "While the two Democratic leaders reiterated in a news conference that they are 'on the same page,' Jeffries and Schumer declined to draw the same red lines on a full-year DHS punt. "Jeffries said after the news conference he is 'a hard no' on a full-year CR, while Schumer stopped short of a hard commitment. “'Republicans shouldn’t expect our votes if they’re not willing to enact strong, tough reform,' he said when asked if Senate Democrats would oppose another punt." https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2026/02/04/congress/democrats-dhs-funding-offer-00764643
And if we don't get real legislation that stops ICE crimes, Democrats must vote No on DHS funding.
@hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social gets it. Why won't @schumer.senate.gov commit to whip the vote in support of his own position?
Excerpted paragraph from Washington Post editorial, "This good compromise would rein in ICE without undermining its core job." February 3, 2026. "Something else Schumer says he wants is an end to 'roving patrols.' Democrats have a part to play here, too. If blue states would hand over dangerous illegal immigrants in their jails, instead of hiding behind 'sanctuary' policies, agents would have less of an excuse to go trawling through Hispanic neighborhoods in pursuit of criminals."
Will the folks on the WaPo editorial board who support ICE "trawling through Hispanic neighborhoods in pursuit of criminals" lose their jobs?
Washington Post article from February 3, 2026, "House votes to end government shutdown, buy time for ICE talks." The accompanying picture shows Donald Trump at his desk in the Oval Office, celebrating as he signs the bills surrounded by applauding officials. On the desk is a red hat that says "AMERICA IS BACK!"
This is how @washingtonpost.com is covering the current state of negotiations.
“We don’t have that many leverage points in the Senate,” Mr. Schumer said of the minority party, “but obviously, spending is one of them.”
Glad that @schumer.senate.gov finally appreciates the power that the Minority Leader has. Now he needs to use it to rein in ICE. No more funding for ICE crimes!
Thanks, @schumer.senate.gov, for listening to your constituents and successfully whipping the vote.
Now let's make sure MAGA doesn't get the Dem votes needed to jam through a weakly rewritten bill. No more funding for ICE crimes! #HoldTheLine
@indivisible.org groups from all 5 boroughs just delivered 1300+ NYers' letters to @schumer.senate.gov's staff, thanking him for uniting the Dems & urging specific demands to curb ICE
