Last question: Is Hackney doing enough to communicate the scale of change required to the community?
Zoe: no. We are dominated by #BigCar
Caroline: Talks about Walking and Cycling conference. Says lots of good sharing there.
Also talked about a wonderful #bikebus experience.
She also says speed is happening, talks about Chatsworth Road, Hoxton and Pembury all being delivered.
Zoe says she would want to see why the council is moving so slowly.
Tareke (Conservative) says he would prioritise high quality cycle lanes.
Q: Pembury was delivered despite being said not to be safe for children to cycle through by Hackneys cycle instructors. What will the Mayor do to ensure higher quality and also speed them up?
Caroline says the Pembury scheme was pedestrian prioritised (and is safer for cycling)
Question: how will the Mayor reduce SUVs in Hackney?
Caroline says parking strategy helps penalise heavier vehicles.
A great question: how will a Mayoral candidate from one party work if the ruling party is made up of another. Hackney could well see a Labour Mayor and Green Council or vice-versa.
Answers are all good but essentially this could get tricky.
Would you be happy letting your child cycle across the new Pembury junction.
Woodley says she would be happier now than before. She also says she thinks routes that don't go via Pembury are preferable.
Zoe says she was shocked that Hackney Labour supported this scheme.
Question time: A member of the Dalston LTN support group asks what the Mayor will do to ensure local support is not ignored for road danger reduction scheme?
Lots of good answers. Zoe says she wants to work with communities and ensure communication is better..
Ask 5. Slightly interesting one from us. We want Mayoral support of road pricing. 2 support, The conservatives do not.
Ask 4 Connect Hackneys town centres and tackle dangerous junctions.
Fully supported.

Ask 3: Reduce kerbside car space by 10% Again 2 of 3 candidates support.
Ask 2: Continue to roll out LTNs and gateway crossings across the borough. Both Labour and Greens support. The Conservatives do not.
A photo of a slide for the Hackney cycling asks. The asks can be found on the Hackney Cycling website
OK, next up is the asks from @hackneycycling. All candidates support this! Whooho
Zoe also states she would not tolerate back any current LTN scheme. But she thinks that LTNs are inherently a scheme to build on with more Comms.
...road danger reduction measure.
Now up @zoegarbett.bsky.social for @hackneygreenparty.bsky.social
She delivers a 5minute tour of the green party plans. These are based on safety as a starting point. She reminds the room of the 158 casualties last year on Hackneys roads. She also highlights Hackney doesn't say that LTNs are
First up we have opening statements. @carolinewoodley.bsky.social leads us off for Labour She reminds the group of the record of Hackney in the past. She talks about the need to ensure schemes are inclusive for all.

HACKNEY CYCLING CAMPAIGN, LIVING STREETS, AND LOW TRAFFIC HACKNEY PRESENT: ACTIVE TRAVEL HUSTINGS HACKNEY MAYORAL ELECTION 2026 Put your questions on cycling, walking and wheeling to the candidates running to be Mayor of Hackney in 7 May’s local elections. 19:30-21:00 Thursday 16 April Pembury Community Centre Dalston Lane, E8 1FA No booking required - see you there! CONFIRMED ATTENDEES: Caroline Woodley Labour Zoé Garbett Green Party FURTHER CANDIDATES TBC
We're holding a hustings event next Thursday (16th April) jointly with Living Streets and @lowtraffichackney.bsky.social.
This will be an exellent opportunity to hear each candidate's vision for active travel in Hackney, and to ask them questions on walking, cycling and wheeling.
Tangentially, the junction also now seems massively overdesigned now given the reduced traffic during the bus gate's hours of operation. If it were turned into a t-junction, that could free up space for improvements like seating / greening / bike parking.
Agreed! You can request new cycle parking here (scroll to the bottom), I assume this is at least looked at occaisionally when they decide where to install new parking:

These days I imagine Lime's data / money is also a major guiding factor too though.
Should be a non-starter from an accessibility point of view. In 2023 the then Labour candidate for Mayor signed up to our ask to make Hackney's housing estates more accessible for wheeling. This would be a backwards step.

A child was hit and injured here a few years ago. While we understand the desire to improve safety, this will in effect bar users of adapted cycles / mobility scooters / cargo bikes.

Calling @willnorman.co.uk @london.gov.uk - this was announced in 2018, would be super to complete by 2028 ?

We don’t just want more and better LTNs, we want Hackney main roads to change. 10% of Hackney residents live on main roads, and we want those people to feel the benefit too.
Here’s how main roads should be changed in Hackney:
