the decision to "be safe" is no longer yours to make. the state has decided to make us unsafe. but you can make informed choices, take calculated risks, and you can decide to be powerful.

Make no mistake, when a cop shoots their riot munitions directly at someone's head, they meant to do it and they mean to kill them.

When granddads deliver sandwiches to kids throwing bricks, the state shakes. When they're all out their together, refusing to let us be divided, the state buckles.

Dividing protestors into "good" and "bad" is what the state wants us to do. Rowdy and peaceful protestors learning how to coexist and develop strategies that dovetail with one another is what threatens power.

Putting up a fierce fight at the opening of the poem is the way to stop the rest of the poem from coming true.

The fight for migrants and to stop ICE is the same fight as the fight to protect LGBT people (citizens or not), reproductive autonomy, and everyone else the fascists want to fuck with.

"specifically telling press to leave the area" is a phrase that makes my stomach hurt. in an age where every protester has their own camera, it's futile, but they don't want us to see what happens next.

protect your eyes, protect your head. "less lethal" munitions are lethal when fired directly at a human being and cops love to use them this way. pepperballs will take your eye out, a tear gas canister can fracture your skull.
cops will kill you on purpose and by accident, all with impunity.

3M mask with extra filters. Ideally a full face respirator.

Soft body armor of some kind for impact munitions. Doesn't have to be ballistic.

Helmet. Can be ballistic. Can be bump. Even a bicycle helmet can save your life from a grenade.

A lot of folks need to pause and speak gently to themselves. Admit to yourself, "I'm afraid right now." Sit with that for a moment, understand what reflexes it's triggering, and that those impulses don't necessarily apply meaningfully to anything that's happening.

i don’t know what to say about the images coming out of LA right now. but in case you need it, here’s a reminder that out in the streets, only water goes in your eyes. flush with water. take your clothes off when you get home & take a cool shower, wash yourself with dish soap a few times. godspeed.

folks I've been tear gassed something like 200 times and maced at least fifty or so times. once i was soaked in mace to my underwear. ignore any neat scientific tricks people give you for beating this stuff

-if no sudecon, wash mace with water
