This is the sort of thing a cashless society robs us of, the opportunity to try to get away with paying the bus fare in Carthaginian currency www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
I am very concerned about the rising cost of groceries, which is why I voted for the guy currently using $4m dollar a piece missile interceptors to shoot down a bunch of bottle rockets in a middle eastern war that he started.

You'd think us violating Irish neutrality in an apparent attempt to assassinate Zelensky by forcing his plane to crash would be bigger news.
For the Irish for a start.

Market continues to rise on reports US Government will remain shut down.
A Russian military reconnaissance aircraft was intercepted over the Baltic Sea today by the German Air Force.
Because of course. Our nothing response on Friday guaranteed they would do it again. Russia will not stop until we stop them.
Treasury markets, already under strain from persistent deficits and weak auction demand, now face prospect of absorbing the largest unplanned government financing operation in modern history.
Tempting to think this is madly over the top. It isn't. Putin's ambitions aren't limited to Ukraine. He has militarised Russian society & economy in a way that's difficult to reverse quickly. So, as Macron & Merz have recently recognised, once Ukraine is dealt with, another country will be next.

Finally we can emotionally understand what it was like to live in an absolutist monarchy, where everyone had to constantly obsess over the emotional state of fundamentally flawed, narcissistic individuals, because they decided the fate of the world.
Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.
I know everyone is overwhelmed with multiple crises around the world right now, but please take 3 minutes to remind yourself of what may be the worst of them all - but probably gets the least international attention: #Sudan.

must be incredibly frustrating and disheartening to have federal funding that was promised to you for important work suddenly and arbitrarily ripped away
This exchange is so very telling.
Trump repeatedly claims the photoshopped MS-13 on Kilmar Abrego Garcia's knuckles is real, Terry Moran keeps telling him it isn't, prompting Trump to say this:
"I never heard of you. I picked you. You’re not being very nice. He had MS-13 tattooed... Just say yes!"
