All IES program officers are gone

How they will be able to administer grants that are already disbursed?

Spend it fast if you can

When you prepare a dataset to share with others, ask yourself:

Will other people be able to fully understand this data and be able to use it accurately based on what I've provided to them?

1/ I am seeing a lot of comments on the slashing of NIH support along the lines of “universities should just spend their huge endowments.”

I’m the last person to cheer on the institutional stratification rising endowments have contributed to. But let me explain why this is not a solution.

How should researchers think about responding over the course of the next four years? Here's what I recommend:
1) Protect yourself.
2) Speak clearly about what’s happening.
3) Be nimble in your research focus.
4) Focus on what you can control.
See more below.

Yesss one of my grants is on Ted Cruz's stupid woke grants list. It was our 2022 NSF RAPID to understand the impact of COVID on American households. We did in fact find racial differences in families' educational experiences during COVID. 😘 journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....

DOE is canceling already funded grants. Just found out one at UMD that started in 2022 for school administrators/leaders was pulled, with some nasty "cease and desist" language to boot. And UNF had one to pulled that was started in 2022 to build a teacher pipeline.

I'm gonna need seasons 2-10 of The Pitt be immediately filmed and released to cope with, well, everything. View it as a public service, if that still exists. And don't go ER/Grey's on us and start killing off main characters. We simply cannot handle that right now.

The federal changes and cuts to Institute of Education Sciences and other federal Department of Education directly threaten the ability to address the teacher shortage crisis in Kansas and in the US.

See more here and consider telling your legislators:

New results from "The Nation's Report Card" just dropped and they are pretty bad. I got a sneak peek as a member of IES’s Standing Committee, so I had an extra day or so to ruminate about them. A few thoughts 👇

My solution to stress about the impending collapse of the research university as we know it? Lifting heavy weights and then putting them back down. I encourage folks to log off (if needed) and focus on what they can control, rather than what they cannot.
