I remember once having this absurdly long discussion on twitter trying to explain the earth’s thermal equilibrium to someone. Nothing I could say could convince him that you have to account for the night side of the earth radiating energy. His mind was made up before I even started.

There is a certain subset of folks who will never get past the idea it doesn’t “feel” like we’re spinning 1000 mph, and there’s nothing that can be said or done to alleviate that particular ignorance. I’m sure many of those same people have other impressive skills, like chainsaw juggling, maybe.
