Top half: Two spinning-rust hard drives, both 40 megabytes in capacity. Unsure of the model number for the "little" 5.25-inch one on the left, but that 8-inch brute on the right is a Quantum Q2040. Those screw mounts on the top are for securing the controller board, not shown here.

Bottom half: The underside of the Q2040 showing the belt which couples the platter spindle on the right to the mains-powered motor on the left. Yes, mains, and it was frequency-dependent, which means it ran at different speeds depending on whether it was fed 50 Hz or 60 Hz.

Belt drive isn't just for Harleys & turntables, that 40 MB multi-platter drive on the right uses it too - the lower shot shows the belt with the transport bracket still in place..

Miss the days when macOS was MacOS, when it was friendly to use & stayed out of your face? Then you'll like helloSystem, a free, FreeBSD-based OS with a UI that rekindles your love.
It's less, but better.

Got a meeting room with a white-board? Leave almost-plausible nonsense like this on it before you leave, just to confound whomever uses the meeting room next.
