Dad Suggests Arriving At Airport 14 Hours Early CARLISLE, MA—Planning for his family’s Saturday evening flight to Florida, local dad Walter Holbrook suggested arriving at the airport at least 14 hours early, sources confirmed. "The plane leaves at ...

Sounds like we have a similar family dynamic, although in my case it is my Dad who is extreme ETTA, which is why this is my all time favorite Onion article. theonion.com/dad-suggests...

Oh, I am certain he has not changed much/at all. But it has been all over with no context, as if the clip was from yesterday. Wish ppl posting it would just say, “Schumer’s opinions don’t seem to have changed a bit since he gave this speech 8 years ago” instead of framing it as a current speech. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thank you. This speech was heavily criticized 8yrs ago, and I am not sure why I am seeing it all over online today as if it just happened. I think he needed to be gone yesterday & remains a problem re: both effectiveness & Middle East, but it is important context that this isn’t a recent speech.

We do pretty well by most people’s standards, but for sure this a strain, even with a well-funded 529. Schools have gotten SO expensive that it seems like a ton of people who otherwise would consider themselves fairly comfortable don’t qualify for aid but also can’t figure out how to pay tuition

I absolutely love Force Majeure. Darkly funny at times and an interesting rumination on masculinity, truth, and relationships.

The costs have gotten absurd. Our oldest went to a(n out of state) state land grant university & received a substantial scholarship, so was ok. Younger sibling is at a highly selective small liberal arts school with a tiny scholarship (they don’t really do scholarships) & the cost is astronomical.

Binding early decision is a huge problem, esp @ selective schools. It confers a big advantage in admission. However, kids who need to wait to compare aid offers can’t enter into these agreements, & thus can’t take advantage of the leg up in selection. The rich kids get the advantage once again.

This is SUCH a great cake! We are big bakers around here and have a BUNCH of cakes in rotation, but this is a huge favorite. Here it is, in all its glory, the first time we made it. (Also, if you love cake, I have two other absolute, no fail bangers I can recommend.)

This was a fascinating and compelling ride along. Really enjoyed it.

Zines in the 90s in SF were great fun. And I really enjoyed this piece of writing. It was an oddly soothing jumble of the profound and the mundane that scratched an itch I didn’t know I had.

Sparrow or Smoke Heather— I think the lighter tones will show off the cables best. Lovely pattern!

Thanks for reposting so it made its way into my timeline. Very thorough and disturbing. Sent it to some family members who have been struggling to understand Hegseth.

Scorpion Dagger is on IG. Their stuff is great!

I just happened to notice it looked like their work, so I checked. 😊 I was going to be mad if someone was copying them! Lots of humor using Renaissance and other historical art on their IG— figured folks might want to check it out if it was their cup of tea!

Scorpion Dagger, the artist who made it, is great. I have followed him on IG for years.

SO DO SOMETHING. Go back to DC. Stand on the steps of the Capitol and say no. Call all the reps you know and demand they press for impeachment filings. Tweeting through it is not a good use of the power you have as a senator.

*Literally* we were just discussing this. Living together, working together in that tiny space requires cooperation, kindness, & grace. And it’s a mission about wonder & willingness to embrace discomfort in the pursuit of shared knowledge. It’s replenishment rather than extraction.

This is the way. 😊 Work from the center out and create that shape on some semolina on counter or peel. If dough is really easy to work with (I use the Roberta’s pizza dough recipe I got from NYT Cooking years ago & it is pretty forgiving), I can pick up and gently stretch a little if needed.

Also, why did I type “understory” when I meant “Overstory?” 😬 My brain is on the fritz these days. Can’t wait to see what other people suggest, because my poor, frazzled brain needs some suggestions for delightful reading fare that does not take “light & fun” to mean poorly edited & badly written.

I read a lot of series: Hilary Mantel, Elizabeth George, Robertson Davies, Lev Grossman, Deborah Harkness, Louise Penny. And a lot of stuff that I love but wouldn’t be beach reads for many ppl— The Sparrow, Kings of the Earth, The Understory, and (my all time fave) The Meadow.

Prob not what you are looking for, but when I think about standalone books I just *enjoyed* reading b/c they were well-written and exciting & I could enjoy anywhere, but not neccessarily *literary*: The Lions of Al-Rassan, The Song of Achilles, and Age of Vice.

I loved this so much. Extra wholesome take on April Fools.

I HATE that. No, I am not switching b/c you didn’t plan ahead. One caveat— you have an amazing seat. Recently hubs got upgraded & I didn’t. We offered the kid next to me the seat in 1st and he was THRILLED. Only try to swap if you have something (much) better & back off if someone wants to stay put.
