So proud of my student Kaj Huisman of #Leiden, presenting his work showing an association between low beta-lactam blood levels and rapid Pseudomonas resistance development.

Ilan, please count me in. Give me a task. Or ten. If starting an online ID #journalclub is what’s needed to resist a return to a platform promoting white supremacy and division amongst us for even more money for a few, then I count myself lucky. That’s not hard work at all.

I think we should ask @germhuntermd.bsky.social 😊
😂
What’s scary is that meropenem today vs meropenem in 2018 has way too much mortality associated. David’s point about generic antibiotics & their poor performance really struck me. We don’t have great post-market quality control.

I hadn’t heard about throwing cats amongst pigeons. 😂 These trials are difficult and real life is so messy. 🙄
Late-breaking research at #ESCMIDGlobal2026
The SCOUT RCT in women with uncomplicated UTI challenges how we think about short-course antibiotics vs single-dose fosfomycin.

Can you tell how many ‘people’ at X are actually bots?
I love Bluesky because it’s still authentic communication amongst humans.

Why move people in that direction?
X algorithm will persist in amplifying extreme views, and platform is still owned by a proto fascist
Surely better to move folk remaining on X to bsky? Or for us all to get off our phones and talk to eachother!

📣Friedland on #host-directed therapies & #TB:
The study of physiology was central in the 20th century but now is something of a backwater, with attention focused on genetics & immunology to generate therapies. This must change..it impedes the development of effective HDTs.

Line graph showing the percentage distribution of Candida species from 2016 to 2024. Candida albicans is the most common species in most years, declining from about 36% to 32%. Candida glabrata increases overall, rising from about 25% in 2016 to a peak around 34% in 2024. Candida parapsilosis fluctuates between roughly 8% and 17% before declining to about 8% by 2024. Candida tropicalis and unspecified/other species remain relatively stable at lower levels (about 6–12%). Multiple-species infections decrease slightly over time. Candida auris is absent before 2022 and then increases to about 5% by 2023–2024.
