Measles outbreak means my immunocompromised son can’t leave the house without extreme safety measures Hundreds of thousands of families are making life-or-death decisions as measles continues to spread.

Yes, measles, Covid-19, flu... it does not matter, public health is a shared responsibility - our decisions impact others around us

Ah, yes... the halcyon days 🙃.

A shame he didn't live long enough to leave much of a legacy in the States.

One of my favourites, too -- along with his Romanian Folk Dances.

I knew that he left Hungary, being disgusted with rising fascism; but I did not know that he took this overtly principled stance.

Thank you for illuminating me! Very interesting indeed.

Get out. That is fascinating. We're so accustomed to thinking that such fundamental changes in instruments happened in the very distant past. Why did the standard pitch shift so recently?

Or listen to the other Béla: Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra expresses both anti-fascism and nostalgia for the composer's Hungarian homeland. Also just a kickass work of classical music.

Commentary that casts Mark Carney as the 'boring banker' is facile and so misses the point. Whatever one thinks of his politics, the mere appearance (and projection) of competence is just so magnetic -- especially in this moment. To wit, my 17-year-old just described him as 'charismatic'.

Absolutely. I might also point out, though, that the US is the outlier as regards housing affordability. Canada faces affordability issues similar to other wealthy countries. America remains the exception -- for now.

Also, Canadians at large are exceedingly receptive to immigration that fills voids in the social system -- i.e. you, as an M.D. On a social/cultural level, you would be embraced with open arms. But (speaking as an immigrant myself) bureaucracy is, indeed, a bitch.

No, I honestly don't think it does. There was a massive acceleration of immigration over a relatively short period of time. People want infrastructure and resources to accelerate in accord. Equating this to some sort of xenophobia is, I think, misguided.

Sure. But Canada has a much higher per capita rate of immigration than the US.

Then I wish you better luck with bodily secretions -- and much less sadness for us all.

This is a peculiar statement. Immigrants in the US are being rounded up, shipped to holding facilities and deported to third party countries. But Canada is worse because of... bureaucracy?

Seconding this! Rotate and reuse your masks. Unless they're wet, soiled or the elastic starts to give, they're good to go.

The pandemic was the kiss of death for my thrifting experiences (in addition to many other things). Barred from opening, my favourite places discovered that they could extract their best items, put them on Facebook, and charge a premium. Hasn't been the same since.

The guy has lived in a predominantly French-speaking city for 15 years. Married to a francophone. Unlimited resources to help him w/ the language. At a certain point, his inability/unwillingness to read what would have been a prepared statement can only be viewed as either ideological or insulting.

Umm... he's being paid 12 million dollars a year -- so yes, we should expect him to work in excess of 40 hours a week.

Also, I'm pretty sure his private tutor would be more than happy to accommodate his schedule.

Many of us have done much more with much less.

‪@dcapto.bsky.social‬ Fantastic series. Well worth watching - and definitely a relevant companion piece to 'Station Eleven'. Just be prepared for frustration: it was abruptly cancelled after its second season, despite stellar critical reception.

The four worst provincial governments in the country want expanded powers regarding the judiciary. I've seen how the provinces run our healthcare system. Hard pass.

I don’t have the energy to repeat my arguments everywhere so here’s a screenshot. People need to call out such fallacious statements and PQ members should question their party’s leadership in approving such messages, because if they don’t that means they’re condoning them.

I was flattered and honored to be invited, two years ago, to deliver the 2027 Lawrence Stone Lectures at Princeton University; I was saddened and mystified to learn that Princeton has disinvited me.

Aid to Ukraine from 2022-2026 was a rounding error. We used more in the first two weeks of the Iran war than we provided in the 4 years of aid to Ukraine.
