I feel like Sun Tzu really missed out on "Invent Pete Hegseth and give him to the enemy"

This reminds me of an insight I’ve had recently: appreciating art, craft, skill etc. doesn’t prove you’re a good person, but without exception anyone who doesn’t is a jerk and the ones who loudly and publicly hold those things in contempt are absolute shitheels
fascism is basically when you get so obsessed about purity there’s an overflow error and you achieve super rot
the elite aren’t powerful politicians or billionaires. common misconception. the elite is anyone i think is cooler than me, funnier than me, more artistic than me, or generally anyone i resent for daring to be happier than i am despite my immense wealth and political clout
like many, I avoided publicly complaining about staying home during the peak Covid years because I didn’t want to be associated with the MAGAs running around infecting everybody at the time.
but it’s been 6 years and I’d like to believe we can now talk about how it was both necessary AND hard.
“Move fast and break things” as an ethos was always going to run into “laws are a hinderance to xyz” and while people may cheekily call it ‘cyberpunk’ or such the reality is it’s nothing more than white collar criminality and should be prosecuted as such
my edgy Covid take is that I while I did socially isolate until vaccines came online for the good of society, I absolutely loathed being unable to see people in person, throw a party, or travel for over a year, and I enjoyed absolutely nothing whatsoever about any of it
Infowars/Onion combo logo in rainbow saying “I support the onion’s hostile media takeover.”
It’s finally happened. After 18 months. Finally, a media merger you can root for.
Meme with a photo of a fountain drink machine with a cup sitting under two nozzles (red and blue), a hand pushing both buttons at once and liquid coming from both nozzles. The blue (left) drink is labelled "grateful for the insight I have gained from all my experiences" and the red (right) drink is labelled "still thinks some of that sh*t should not have happened". The hand is labelled "me".
for many years now, there's been a pretty pervasive attitude in tech that everything outside of technical development is an idiot monkey job, and, as part of the idiot monkey class in tech, i can't say i am *entirely* unenthusiastic about the great leveling AI is going to cause across the industry
best thing I am learning from Mamdani is to stay cheerful and keep going. Rage is tempting but it slows you down
“frustrated with modern dating” you mean frustrated with treating women as human beings with agency
The actual divide on this website, much like real life, is between people who are curious about the world and want to understand how it works and people who are very mad that the world doesn’t work the way they want it to
Same goes for Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, and every other maga or maga-adjacent figure who starts flirting with Trump criticism. Trump is weak and Maga is fracturing. That's ripe ground for political jockeying. Now is the time of monsters.
You do not, under any circumstances, gotta hand it to Marjorie the Gathering, but laundering her transphobia, racism, and plain-jane antisemitism in favor of her antizionism tells us a lot about you.
walkable cities strongly encourage a feeling of imagined community that helps make you a good citizen. if you experience the city only in slices it's easier to see large swathes of it as fundamentally alien or hostile.
Gentrification is imo an overly broad umbrella term that includes real and concrete harms like people being unable to live near transit due to rents spiking, and vibe based bullshit like the neighborhood not being “authentic” anymore that you should just be expected to deal with as an adult
the basic theory of DOGE was that if powerful people said it was fine it didn’t matter what the law said.
I think proving that theory wrong is worth significant effort
Comic. [Person and person with white hat facing two boxes stacked with $80 price tag and sale tag on each box.] PERSON 1: They want $80 for this? I could make one myself for $10 in parts, an hour of work, a trip to the hardware store, another $30 in parts, another few hours of work, two more trips to the store for $20 more in parts, another hour of work to redo the first hour of work because I messed up, and $80 to buy this when the one I made breaks.

the thing about bluesky is that it sucks but a social media site that doesn't work is still better than twitter
I'm just some dude, but I'm starting to suspect that any deMAGAfication efforts will also need to include an overdue acknowledgement of the massive victory the anti-intellectualism movement scored somewhere in the last few decades, with plans to reverse that corruption as well as the political.
This is the message that should pop up when you first sign up for Bluesky
i need like a giant flashing neon sign that says LYING AND MAKING CLAIMS WITHOUT EVIDENCE IS THE WEAPON OF THE ENEMY
“Beyond the basic fiscal math, it is counter-productive to liberal goals to indulge the anti-tax politics of the right. (. . .)If we believe that the government can and should improve the lives of its citizens and the world, it can only do so with the collective buy-in of taxation.”

You can always shit on cryptocurrencies. It's always morally correct.

Everything is a conspiracy theory if you're too stupid to know how stuff works.
