I hope that all my games end up as miserable 10 hour slogs that teach you the truth about life.

Games historically have skewed more towards product than art when compared to things films, music or books, and I think that gets reflected in how people think they should be designed. I think games are more likely to be seen as "poorly designed" rather than "not for me"

Yeah I definitely get that vibe at a lot of events. To me, part of the appeal of a lot of indies is that they don't need the appease the masses and can try to go for something interesting or unique.
