An outcome truly designed to drive everyone to madness.

I don't really want to speak troublesome outcomes into existence but Kamala Harris seemingly running for president again coupled with her very deliberately saying nice things about AOC indicates the possibility that Harris wins the primary and picks AOC as her VP is >0.
US construction paralysis (and solution ?), in action:
Shelter for delivery workers gets $1 m in federal funding in 2021
Policymakers spend 3 years disagreeing, coming to no agreement about where, how, what, etc
Mamdani enters office, declares it will be done in <100 days, and it just… happens?
“In public, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. has cultivated a reputation for care and caution. The papers reveal a different side of him. At a critical moment for the country and the court, the papers show, he acted as a bulldozer in pushing to stop Mr. Obama’s plan.”
Re: the Alito news. mfw I watch progressives fantasize about capturing the court, rather than structurally limiting its authority:
everyone keeps saying "this guy's gotta get fired" as if someone this lazy isn't the best case scenario for who Trump would appoint as his head of internal security!
We are all worse off that this talented, conscientious person was driven out of this country by the brutality and cruelty of our government.

Upzonings in New York City produced substantial increases in housing supply. Source: https://www.urban.org/research/publication/how-big-upzonings-affect-housing-supply
When NYC rezoned Brooklyn's Gowanus neighborhood to allow high-density residential uses along a cleaned-out canal, it hoped to attract thousands of new housing units.
That's exactly what it got, new research comparing upzoned areas to similar, non-upzoned areas shows: www.urban.org/research/pub...
👍
I want to be wrong very badly, but...
-*tradeoffs
Tax cuts poll well when you don't also do corresponding 1:1 cuts in social spending. The success of the Trump project has relied heavily on few if any fiscal tradeoffs being made.
It's gonna be painful, but I think a world of traders being real ultimately redounds to the benefit of democrats.
Good for Hochul. Zohran W
A springtime of the people, you say? Throwing off the yoke of a tyrant backed by the autocrat of Russia?
On the topic of the United States layering its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz on top of Iran's existing blockade of the straight of Hormuz:
Again, we should just ignore these pardons. Pack the Supreme Court with people willing to make the exception for corrupt pardons. We'll want to pack it anyway.
1984 calendar meme with the lady saying "the empire is at war with Persia and the Pope" and the calendar says January 1054
The best and more recent analogue to that kind of threat is actually Napoleon imo...who did actually use military force against the church and imprisoned the pope for years. Notably that did not work out well for him.
Mercantilism, zero sum thinking...it's bad
Was pretty clear from the jump that tolling the straight appealed to Trump conceptually and if Iran were to offer to cut him in on the action he's be happy to give them whatever they want.
hot take: i think the move in the direction of a more explicitly extortion based international order is bad actually. I also do not especially relish the idea of re-boning up on mercantilism
2008 is the only post Cold War election where domestic anger about us foreign policy was wide and deep enough to elect a president with halfway decent ideas about how the US should relate to the world.
i wonder if AOC’s early clashes with the democratic establishment PLUS the unhinged reaction to her from republicans have given her some of the “both sides hate her so she must be Independent” vibe that goes a long way with low propensity voters
I've gone blue in the face saying this but this is completely illegal and if it's not stopped now it will be a preview of 2027-28, when Trump will just keep the budget going by himself
Just so: "An administration official said the events of the weekend have animated the president and made him eager to apply even more pressure on the Iranians as he seeks a deal." Link: https://www.wsj.com/world/trump-warns-in-journal-interview-that-he-could-strike-every-power-plant-in-iran-47556f0d Qt: Main takeaway for me is that the US has demonstrated it can operate inside Iran, Iran has demonstrated it can make such operations very costly, but from the US perspective the successful exfiltration and Iran's apparent inability to directly disrupt the operation has likely produce more confidence that further operations are possible, rather than less.
it's the Caracas Delusion all over again
the incredible operational skill of the US military when given an achievable goal (rescuing pilots, kidnapping a possibly coup'd head of state) leads the US government to assign them unachievable goals
