I felt this way with The Dawn of Everything. The book has tons of interesting factoids and I learned things, but I was sooooo frustrated with how they meandered around the main arguments, or addressed them by pushing back against pop sci ideas that most experts don’t even seem to believe. Ugh!

Salmon clear last Klamath dams, reaching Williamson and Sprague rivers Just a year after four dams were removed, a group of fall Chinook have migrated nearly 300 miles into the Upper Klamath Basin.

My heart was jubilant while reading this story this morning - more than 100 Chinook salmon have passed the former Klamath River dam sites as well as the fish ladder at Klamath Lake and are naturally spawning in Oregon headwaters for the first time in over a century! 🐟🧪🌎

Our research group just published a study in Nature on how fish biodiversity in U.S. rivers and streams has been changing over the past 27 years (1993–2019). The results show sharply diverging trends depending on historic and changing water temperature. 🧵 rdcu.be/eH0l8

celebrate              package:celebrate               R Documentation

Audio 'announcements' when printing model summaries

Description:

     The only function of this package is to augment the printing of
     model summaries with appropriate sound effects based on whether
     you have achieved the magical p<0.05 level of significance for at
     least one variable (not including the intercept - we have to try
     to be a _little_ bit sensible ...)

Details:

     Sounds are taken from <http://freesounds.org>

     To set an alpha-level different from 0.05, you can specify
     ‘options(celebrate.alpha = <value>)’

        • fanfare: user primordiality,
          <https://www.freesound.org/people/primordiality/sounds/78823/>
          (CC BY 3.0)

        • trombone: user kirbydx,
          <https://www.freesound.org/people/kirbydx/sounds/175409/>
          (CC0)

Examples:

     ## Not run:

     m1 <- lm(speed~dist,cars)
     m2 <- lm(Income~Population,data.frame(state.x77))
     summary(m1)

     ## chi-squared test
     M <- as.table(rbind(c(762, 327, 468), c(484, 239, 477)))
     dimnames(M) <- list(gender = c("F", "M"),
                         party = c("Democrat","Independent", "Republican"))
     (Xsq <- chisq.test(M))  # Prints test summary
     boring <- matrix(c(6,5,4,5), nrow = 2)
     (chisq.test(boring))
     ## End(Not run)

Hi Bluesky, I am happy and optimistic to be here! Anyone know a freshwater fisheries biologist into teaching who might want to come join me in the beautiful Ozark streams of SW Missouri?
