Oh, I’m in agreement that his reaction says way more about him than the intention behind the original post. I’ve seen a few people talking about his history of support, and it’s reminding me of the lawyer guy that got called out, and people defended him up until he decided to call himself a TERF.
Eh, his ego was struck and people’s (especially cis men’s) response is usually to double down and spit in the face of anyone giving issue. Like, I hardly think the original post is where the real problem lies here. It’s his response.

Too often, the 'visibility' we are supposed to celebrate turns into the instrument of our destruction.
Every flaw, every moment of weakness or anger, every inadvisable statement construed in the least charitable possible light so that others feel righteous in our persecution.
We get to watch as the social media platforms so many of us rely on for a meagre living are weaponised against us; as trans woman after trans woman is singled out as the villain of the moment and run off.
It's different this time though. They deserved it, you see. They were asking for it.
I'm still thinking about how a journalist posted something and worded it so poorly that he called something abusive non-abusive, then instead of just correcting it initiated a self-fatwa and proceeded to say everyone who noticed his poor wording is who is really ruining everything. 🧵
It’s frustrating to be misunderstood, especially by people who probably don’t know your work or reputation. I can sympathise with that.
But I really find it heinous to then find a way to turn your audience against people who are dealing with so much pain and fear at the moment. That’s just cruel.
I think that Slate writer really did just word something poorly and wasn't trying to be dismissive. Also seems pretty bad that he handled it by doing a "here are 4 negative responses, this site is evil and I'm leaving" act with full knowledge nazis will pick it up and use it as a cudgel.

So this TDOV, (at least)two trans women got ran off the platform because a cis guy wrote something that could be misunderstood to their audience in the tens of thousands who got backed up by others with tens of thousands because of those posts where one barely hit double digits. As in 10.
the uwu-ification of journalists has to stop. if you're a journalist, cis or trans, and talk about trans rights, sometimes trans people will criticize you.
sometimes they will be mean out of anger. if you really think they're being unfair, block them. but why screenshot them and send harassment?
Like, I’m not for the rudeness of it all, but I think people do respond way too harshly to this. “Someone said I should d*e” isn’t exactly the same as “I want to k*** you” and yet people seem to put them at the same level. Like, I’ve received more hate from the left on Twitter than I see here.
